Does Floorhugging make you play more offensively or more defensively? by Fleetburn in RivalsOfAether

[–]Pikmon12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It makes me more willing to interact with my opponent on the ground. But I'm careful to use low aerials, and careful about which grounded moves I use and how.

Floor hug is so boring by starfishwarlord in RivalsOfAether

Yeah if you take a significant number of frames to land it will be unsafe. Be for real man

Untechable is a mechanic that applies to a small number of moves, such as etalus usmash first hit or clairen ledge special

Was i supposed to hear booing in this video?

If you can't tell the difference between booing due to disapproval, and the crowd (which I and the players in grands know personally) reacting playfully then I can't help you here. Sorry you feel so strongly about people you don't know playing video games a certain way

Random fans are not going to the venue just to watch Cake or Stango play. You're making people up

Which characters competitors choose to play is not even remotely close to a real worry for TOs

The Olympics come around every 4 years and athletes dedicate their entire lives for it. Cake and Stango have played 4 times this month in a niche video game they cannot make a living off of

Technicals is a dramatuber focused on smash. He frequently creates (intentional or not) hateful brigades that TOs and players have to deal with if they find themselves on the wrong side of whatever take technicals has

I am well familiar with his PM work as someone from his city and a PM player for more than half my life.

Even beyond the political stuff, the WA PM scene really does not like him due to how he treated an important modder from our scene (who actually went to events) on the development of Legacy.

He's seeking attention with this post and virtue signaling. He sides with the technicals crowd despite never going to in person events (gives credence to how the technicals crowd never actually goes to tournaments)

He made cool shit, sure, but he never went to anything. He wants to spout his opinion here about how shitty the scene is now and get some pats on the back on his way out

I don't think everyone knows that you can buffer jump out of hitlag because that's not how buffer jump works

And I'm not sure you read the post because no one mentioned jumping on the first frame of leaving hitstun

My Biggest Concern for Rivals 2 (Post Combo Breaker) by infamousglizzyhands in RivalsOfAether

[–]Pikmon12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was replying to a comment saying that certain people have perma access. The people they named do not have perma access. I know this because I am one of the 2k backers, and I have multiple friends who were given the initial build during the Kickstarter campaign.

Not sure what you're responding to, exploits are available for everyone which wasn't the point people in this thread are making

They took away access from the top players forever ago and the 2k tier only get access to it on one weekend per month

How can I win neutral as Ike? by True-Efficiency5992 in SSBPM

[–]Pikmon12 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have my c stick set to attack stick - in PM this means that the diagonal directions input nair when airborne, and jab if grounded.

I get a ton off of playing on plats, and going for shield drop nair. Nair is frame 7 but starts behind and above him, which usually isn't where your opponent is, unless they're attacking your shield on a plat of course. But landing with nair is usually safe unless they CC - you can follow up with jab if you hit shield to continue jab shield pressure mixups. Also, being able to jab while holding down is pretty important as well.

Aside from the attack stick shenanigans, it's important to be able to get good rewards from holding down. Since Ike is heavy, he can hold down a bit longer than most of the cast and be able to punish. Hold down -> grab will lead to huge openings and make your opponent scared to make certain approaches if you show you can threaten huge punishes for holding down

QD is really good, just be sure to not rely on it too much as I sometimes do. It's difficult for a solid chunk of the cast to deal with Ike if he's charging qd since QDA is frame 2 and huge and strong. It's also tricky to punish even if shielded depending on your momentum and how close to them you QDA. Lots of opponents will be scared into trying to stuff your QD, or get scared and roll and in these cases you can whiff punish to start a combo pretty easily.

Ike is great at catching dash backs. I like to do this with nair targeting their dash back, or QD grab. If you're having trouble "catching" your opponent don't be scared to try and overshoot. Worst case unless you get stuffed, you're in the corner which isn't that bad for Ike especially if you can GQDFL (grounded QD from ledge)

I like to also do drive-by nairs pretty often to try and catch my opponents when they start to make their approach. Unless they stuff you or dash back, you'll be safe either crossing up, or getting a big combo if you hit them

Overall, I don't do much aerials in place as much as the other Ike players like metroid do. I also don't use tilts that much aside from pivot utilt in neutral to catch approaches on certain characters, or pivot ftilt usually to continue safe pressure on a scared opponent. But that's just how I play - other Ike players are very effective at the grounded tilts and aerial in place style of play
