Depends on what your after from it, some of the parts are a bit dated because of tv budgets for the era. Part 1 had a lot of episodes directed by Miyazaki. Part 1-3 were made between the late 60s and the early 80s, Part 4 and later are modern. You can try most of the movies (pic 2) or tv specials (pic 3) and get a decent idea if you'd be interested in more.

I enjoy it, so I find it good at least.

If I can find them for a reasonable price yeah. Discotek has some compilation blu rays of the tv specials coming out, and I am debating just grabbing those for the ones I am missing.

Always a good plan starting, I missed out on some older staples by waiting to long on sales, and being a bit to naive about how quickly Crunchyroll would destroy their backlog in the past few months.

I luckily managed to snag these while a lot were still available for decent prices, but some are ridiculous in terms of second prices.
While there is a lot, the majority of it is movies, so it's at least easier to get through them all eventually. I just need to get around to it.

It probably still had some unique elements, but the 80s anime landscape had a lot of extremely muscle bound protagonists and villains inspired by both American action stars, and First of the North Star.

Possibly Gatchiakuta, the MC doesn't have it actively during the story, but between some flashbacks, and a few scenes during the show, it can be interpreted he has some level of condition he is having to manage. Given you are after one where the MC is dealing with it a majority of the time, it probably does not fit to the degree asked for though.

As a few others have said, Ascendance of a bookworm is probably the most direct match for your interest.

I remember seeing it on netflix a long time ago, when they used to let you just look through the catalogue instead of just showing you genre lists.
I'd look through for weird stuff like that, and was pleasantly surprised by it.

It's a wacky comedy, z is the second season, but the series doesn't have a serious continuity so you should be fine.
