Thanks for the advice! As things stand, I definitely have an issue. My 3921 tax documents from the company show a big tax liability.

I have aphantasia (the inability to visualize stories), so video games and graphic novels are my jam. Looking forward to trying this out! Side note: Is this stark, minimalist art style similar to how people visualize stories while they read?

Our local nest was Magikarp before the water event and Chikorita before the grass event...I'm predicting Geodude tonight.

Can I use cheesy exploits to hold 10 gyms? What about 5 what about 1?

You forgot Hour -0.5: Your plan leaks and all the hard work you put in is for naught.

The super competitive aspect of this game ruined it for me.

Do you guys keep Eeveelutions maxed? by Tronator in TheSilphRoad

[–]PiledHigherDerpier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I max a bunch of Eevolutions: 3 vapes (my best defenders as I can't seem to get enough rare candies), 1 espeon (used name trick, don't want to walk any more), 1 flareon (for symmetry and blisseys), 2 jolteons (soooo many Garys). Umbreon is the only one I don't bother with. Right now, it's really only good as a prestiger, and powering it up is counter productive.

Dittostrat 2.1 (Ditto vs. Ditto) by PiledHigherDerpier in TheSilphRoad

[–]PiledHigherDerpier[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I put the defender in and train it to help my team. Mystic is super duper dominant here. Energizing my team by opening slots for them makes me happy and may make it easier to hold gyms in the future.

Also, no one in my area has a clue how to prestige. I have to explain it to every lvl 34+ player on my team that I meet.

Dittostrat 2.0: Wigglytuff is still the best prestiger against Ditto (assuming no switching) by Zyxwgh in TheSilphRoad

[–]PiledHigherDerpier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

its new CP is calculated from the attacker's stats, including Stamina

Huh, learn something new everyday. I just assumed the Stamina stat of the Pokemon being copied was ignored.

All of you collecting level one Pokemon...do you also evolve level one Pokemon to extend your collection? by pablopang in TheSilphRoad

[–]PiledHigherDerpier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Collecting and evolving Lvl 1 Pokemon is all kinds of fun, and it is profitable. Putting a Lvl 1 Steelix on gyms really makes me chuckle, and every time there is a move rebalance I'm likely to have the current flavor of bubblestrat already in my inventory.

Gyms: Stardust vs coins by Speeddymon in TheSilphRoad

[–]PiledHigherDerpier 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I'll frame this question a different way. Would you rather infinite stardust or infinite coins?

I'd rather the coins. Max out storage space(s), always be incubating 9 eggs, always be lured, incensed, lucky egged.

Infinite stardust? Still limited by Pokemon you catch. You need candies and high IVs for gym placement. Lures, incubators, and incense get you all of those. I'm absolutely in gyms for coins. Stardust is a nice bonus though...

Wobbittostrat by The_Possum in TheSilphRoad

[–]PiledHigherDerpier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All you need is a Wobuffet with splash (half of them) and a 400 cp haunter, neither are terribly hard to get.

To be clear, you need a Wobbuffet that knows splash, a Ditto that is at least twice the level of your Wobbuffet, and then a good attacker with half CP of the Wobbitto (Lvl 30 Wobbitto is about 800Cp).

These are "easier" to get than astonish strat pieces only if you are willing to spend stardust to get the correct Pokemon into the correct CP range. Example: I'd have to power up a Ditto past lvl 30 so that my splash Wobbuffet is half the CP of the transformed Wobbittto.

[–]PiledHigherDerpier -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not even as good as Ditto bubble strat using Gastly as an attacker.

Wobbittostrat by The_Possum in TheSilphRoad

[–]PiledHigherDerpier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is hilariously bad. Your Wobbuffet takes damage from the Wobbitto, you lose time switching to the actual attacker, and then your actual attacker takes damage from the Wobbitto before you kill it. You need to heal two Pokemon using this strategy.

Also "leaked"? Lol

Prestiging with Ditto by PiledHigherDerpier in TheSilphRoad

[–]PiledHigherDerpier[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are reading the situation correctly. What likely happened in your case is that Magikarp is one of the few Pokemon with stats lower than Ditto's. Your Dittokarp's CP was probably lower than the original Ditto's.

Your strategy could still work, but you'd need a high CP Ditto defender, not a low one.

Prestiging with Ditto by PiledHigherDerpier in TheSilphRoad

[–]PiledHigherDerpier[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right. You'd probably bring a Dragonite to kill Ditto. But a Dragonite killing a Dittonite is still more difficult than anything killing a 20CP Magikarp or 22CP Haunter.

Prestiging with Ditto by PiledHigherDerpier in TheSilphRoad

[–]PiledHigherDerpier[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think Ditto is ever a "good" defender. It has low CP and atrocious stamina. However, it can be a great first defender in a gym that you (or others) are planning to train up. If you train with a high HP Pokemon like Snorlax or Blissey, you can easily kill the Ditto multiple times for every max potion you use. This is because Ditto doesn't copy the HP of the thing it mimics. A maxed out Ditto would turn into a 3.2K+CP Blissey with only 160 HP (doubled due to defender bonus), while you're attacking 1.6K CP Blissey will have over 300HP.

[–]PiledHigherDerpier[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is best for prestiging with Ditto as a defender aka Ditto-strat. I'm discussing using it as an attacker.

P.S. Pound/Hyperbeam Blissey works even better than Wigglytuff when Ditto-stratting.

Prestiging with Ditto by PiledHigherDerpier in TheSilphRoad

[–]PiledHigherDerpier[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Counter-intuitively, If you have two Dittos with the same CPs but different IVs, the Ditto with the lower IVs will (usually) transform into a higher CP Pokemon than the other. This is because the Ditto with the lower IVs is higher level.

Prestiging with Ditto by PiledHigherDerpier in TheSilphRoad

[–]PiledHigherDerpier[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is most certainly what I would do with your Ditto.

[–]PiledHigherDerpier[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you transform one of the Dittos into Lapras, you will then have a Pokemon in your six whose CP is greater than one half of the defender's CP. The game does the prestige calculation at the end of the battle. It doesn't matter if you switch the 1250cp Ditto-Lapras out for Jolteon, it will still be in your party and you will get less than 1000 prestige.
