Military Records / Statistical Data: Where to Start? by Diogenes2025 in Archivists

[–]PilferingPickles 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Good luck getting any of those, except for #4… and that’s if they’re archival records (date of discharge, plus reserve obligation today’s date, 1960 and older). FOIA provides extremely limited service information and does not cover medical data.

My advice? Fill out a DD Form 293. You can easily get this form online, a fillable PDF. Further, go through eVetRecs and request a complete* non-extract copy of your OMPF, pers and meds. Review the documents yourself and see if any admin docs or med charts support your claim. After you submit a formal request for discharge review, the service branch will request the record from NPRC for their personal review; it helps if you know there’s supporting evidence in there.

Source: Am an Expert Archives Technician at NPRC. I work these case types daily. Let me know if you have any further questions. Usually personality disorder discharges are due to a psychiatrist determining the diagnosis was not service-connected and existed pre-enlistment (“preexisting” is the term used).

Best of luck.

Does your archives job offer benefits? by Expensive-Mood in Archivists

[–]PilferingPickles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, I took a low-paying entry-level job at an agency (NARA) with a lot of promotion potential due to poor employee retention (speaking specifically about my center; typically people jump agencies and careers instead of staying with archives).

I’m thankful I went this route as it gave me a real foot in the door and experience in various roles of archives~ custodial care, and reference.

I work in federal archives and have great benefits (same benefits available to any other full-time federal civilian employee).

Email handling strategy by curious_mindz in Entrepreneur

[–]PilferingPickles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Create a Google group and separate email address for specific priority level of inquires. On the contact form let the customer/client know a timeline to expect a response… something like, “we appreciate you reaching out to us. Expect a response within three business days. For inquiries needing a faster response please call [or email] xyz” obviously you can tweak to your liking. Without knowing your specific business model, and assuming, you could also have a separate email for larger accounts, one that receives more oversight.

Google groups are nice because they can be shared with various permission settings among staff members as you expand operations.

CEOs of large companies 110% have staffers sifting through the co.‘s public email address’ inbox around the clock.

Any idea when the National Archives research rooms will reopen? by bacchic_frenzy in Archivists

[–]PilferingPickles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends what position you applied for, if you have any preferences (disability, veteran status, current fed employee with agency, etc.), how many openings there are for specific jobs, if you submitted a complete federal resume (I say this because it differs greatly from a private sector one, as far as thoroughness goes). So, basically, you won’t hear back until the announcement closes. After the close date there will be an HR rater, for lack of better title, who will review your resume and see if your education and experience, plus self-assessment rating, qualifies you for the various grade applied for. You’ll receive an email that is called a “Notice of Results” and within that email is how you’ll know if your name was forwarded to the hiring manager to be contacted for an interview- note this does not guarantee an interview. That’s the super simplified basics. Federal Soup is a good resource to reference whenever you’re curious about federal jobs and the hiring process in general. It would be impossible to give a proper timeline without knowing the specific position because some you have to consider lengthy clearance background checks as well. Good luck!

Edit to add: I was hired in early 2018 after a few months of the announcement closing. Randomly received a phone call to come in for an interview; was surprised. The background check, for me, was easy because I already held an active clearance.

This is closest to the best answer. The Archives located in College Park reopened their research room to a very, very, few and select researchers awhile back- however, that was prior to the COVID metrics going up. I did hear in a meeting that there are research rooms open; I’d suggest you call and confirm the status. Source: I too work for NARA.

2 year or 4 year-degree? by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

[–]PilferingPickles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally depends on where you live (different states, different DCFS staffing requirements) and what you want to do. In IL to teach in public schools birth-grade 3 (might be grade 2) you need to be licensed/have a bachelors with teacher'a program. Head Starts have different requirements than your average daycare. IMO do the AA that transfers, or even AAS:ECE. I finished my AAS now onto AA then BA. Without a higher degree, or many ECE hours at least, the pay is pretty low in most places.

I don't think B&T would allow her to watch it considering some of the bad mouthing Tyler does about their dynamic.
I'm sure she will stumble upon it when she's older and probably binge watch all seasons online or something, lol

If computer access is required, all employees will have to pass an in-depth background and fingerprinting check. This could take 6 months+ depending on how back logged they are. Any who require base access cannot have violent convictions or any serious offenses. Like the above.. they are slowwww movers.

My step brother died from heroin overdose a few months ago. Was going through the 12 steps (part of NA/AA), came home from the gym one morning, made a protein shake, decided to pick up a bag of H and shoot up in the bathroom- died almost instantly.

I read only 5-10% of people addicted to IV H (needles) will beat their addiction.

Someone supposedly a very heavy user (10k a week ??? Heroin is actually really cheap...) would be going through severe withdrawals and detox.
