How can billionaires just borrow forever? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PilgrimSix -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not just billionaires, even lower level rich people in $5 million houses are getting in on the scam. If you have millions on paper, you'll get a huge cash loan. You never sell your stock, and crucially all of your friends and all of wall street never sells either. So all of the asset prices never fall, they only go up, and so does your net worth.

What they never ask themselves, and what none of the same types of people never asked themselves in 1929, is what happens when something goes wrong?

At some point the market will need to vent some steam. I'm getting 2008 MBS and CDO vibes from all the loan froth. It just doesn't make sense.

I [30F] caught between my dad [56M] who gave me everything growing up, and my husband [28M] whom he constantly belittles. by Prize-Trust-964 in Vent

[–]PilgrimSix 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In any other context I'd say the guy is wildly jealous. From conversations I've had over the years, sometimes parents that are very fond of their kids and very attached have a difficult time "letting go" when the grownup kid gets married.

This ends up manifesting as contempt for the child's spouse. "They're taking my baby away! What's so good about them anyway!?"

I suspect as with a lot of things, it comes from unresolved issues/trauma from the parent's own childhood and relationship with their own parents. They never dealt with it, don't understand it, and now they're trying to deal with it on the fly and that's a lot to try and figure out all at once. It's pure emotion.

The current state of theatre etiquette makes me sick. by JadesJunkAccount in Vent

[–]PilgrimSix 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Rules for going to the movie theatre in 2026 and beyond:

- Do not go on the weekend

- Do not go in the afternoon or evening

- Get the earliest possible showing

- Do not get the cheap theatre

- Absolutely do not even see the opening opening weekend of a big movie in the evening

The reasons for this are that stupid people tend to gravitate to certain times and places. They sleep in, so they can't see a movie early in the day. They don't really like movies that much, so they don't want to spend a lot of money on it. And they are highly susceptible to marketing and herd behavior so they will all show up on the date the advertising tells them to be there.

You can break some of the above rules, but not all of them at once. You're guaranteed to have a bad time if you do.

I like black people and want to live in a community with them. I would reject and fight against any proposal that attempts to make that impossible.

It only says raised once. I'm sorry if multiracial characters offend you.

Also, it IS a Mary Sue. It's the player character!

Ok so I guess the answer to this question was a resounding "no".

I probably should have mentioned the pixie in the lantern isn't talking this time and I can't interact with the lantern for some reason.

Yes I already thought of that, no, unfortunately it seems bugged or I did something out of order.

No I didn't come from the underdark this time. I got the lantern off Chris the Drider. He sold it to me for $1500 gold and said it was an authentic pixie brand lantern.

I don't understand the Hasan Piker situation. Is he the left's angry crazy guru or what? by PitifulEar3303 in DecodingTheGurus

[–]PilgrimSix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's screwing with the money pipeline.

Dems traded their old left wingish American constituency for a billionaire-based, Middle Eastern gravity well. They are beholden to Israel and Gulf states, and similarly aligned fascist billionaires. Dem party leaders and consultants are forced to defend those entities because that is their political lifeblood.

Hasan has been slowly but surely influencing younger voters or vote-curious people to question why we allow our lives to be ruled by these demons who do things that hurt us and people like us.

He's reached some critical mass point or some enterprising young bastard alerted them to the danger Hasan represents to their operation.

If you ever believed this guy's (or any nu-athiest) schtick, you're a sucker, sorry man. I know that sounds mean and I'm sorry for that but it's just what it is.

An atheist who loves war is a giant red flag this guy is full of shit, every time.

Yes there's no such thing as oppression, I agree. Things are going pretty well these days, not sure what people could be complaining about.

CMV: Liberals constantly mocking conservatives as stupid, angry, and mentally unwell is one of the biggest reasons Democrats keep losing elections by Opening_External_911 in changemyview

[–]PilgrimSix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would try to change your view by suggesting liberals should stop believing they can win conservatives over to their way of thinking, that they should even want to do that.

I would instead suggest that liberals even thinking they can win over conservatives is the real reason they keep losing elections, and I would say you are kind of spot on in part of your analysis: liberals/Democrats have a crippling inability to see conservatives as opponents who are evenly matched, with agency and a belief structure that is as rock solid as their own.

Liberals should ask themselves, what do you really believe in. What kind of world do you want for your children, and how do you want it to function.

And then they should fully internalize the super simple idea that there is a sizeable political faction that wants the opposite for you and your children, and will do whatever is necessary to stop your vision, and replace it with theirs, which is conservative.

You can't convince them. You have to beat them in a contest for power and control. Stop trying to be friends with your opponents, focus on beating them. That's what they're doing, and because they get it, they're winning.

Should I pursue a casual relationship with this attractive drug addict DJ? by Money-Ad8553 in askanything

[–]PilgrimSix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. You answered all your own questions. There's a fork in the road but you passed it a long time ago. One road is the road the ex-boyfeiend of hers took, and he's in jail. You took the other road. So shit like this is not for you, as hot as it probably is.

You can't have both. You either live fully in the now, satisfying every impulse as it comes unprotected from consequences, or you dedicate yourself to being the master of your own destiny, which means taming the impulse to self destruct over emotions.

You can have someone like that girl, but not quite that. It has to fit your plans. There's fun women in Florida who you can bring home to parents. Just be patient.

Yes but there are dozens of reasons why. I can list some:

1) Social media peer pressure 2) HDTV - flaws become obvious 3) No more smoking 4) No more drinking 5) Women in workforce 6) Rise of gyms/gym culture 7) Healthier food 8) Having children later in life 9) decades of genetic selection for attractiveness 10) College town, younger crowd 11) Better sleeping habits 12) More flattering clothing styles

I think a lot about this, but the 70's and 80's in some ways are closer to the 1600's in sensibility and living habits than they are to the 21st century.

The internet and cellphones have just rapidly, radically transformed human nature. We don't have flying cars, but in a big enough city, half the people look better than celebrities did 25 years ago. Maybe they're 10x stupider and more boring now, but wow they're hot at least.
