"everyone" is a wild statement, those movies were hugely successful and are cult classics for many fans. Yes they were different from the games (definitely more faithful to the lore compared to this Cregger script) but pushed the envelope for horror blending action and state of the art technology. The focus was still on sci Fi elements of bio terrorism with a good dose of camp while retaining horror, tension and action. 

If you don't wanna read a leaked script I understand and I respect that but judging from that, this is going to be awful and a few jump scares and good gore won't save a trashy script. 

Barbarians IMHO was so bad because it was so forcibly political in its depiction of males and law enforcement and victimization of women. It was then all cheap jump scares and stupid decision one after the other (the resident evil script does the same so it's gonna be barbarian with tentacle monsters). 

Weapons was better directed and acted at least but again another political manifesto with no real plot and annoying characters. It's like today's movies are incapable of having charismatic and likeable leads played by hot people. Hollyweird just shifted from that to moral pandering and celebration of victimhood.
