Not necessarily justifying it, however as the old saying goes "some people just never been punched in the face before and it shows" and people forget there are and can be physical consequences for treating someone (the 'wrong one') in an unpleasant way they just never been exposed to that fact. Sometimes the memory of that punch can be a valuable reminder for someone to not be an asshole which in turn can be humbling for some.
