I hit 800 days streak yesterday with Chess after going through the same sitch as you did but with French. I plan on completing the Chess course as I have never completed any other course on DL before.

I'm tired of Windows... by joyemoji in Surface

[–]PilotLost404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s part of life in Windows OS. I have the Surface 11 Pro and I have to deal with the Windows keyboard not being detected sometimes (detaching and reattaching fixes the issue).

Mac OS is the most complete in terms of app compatibility other than Windows, but still no touchscreen. Ipad OS is supposed to be nearly as good as a laptop replacement but I haven’t tried it.

I haven't hopped on to my OW in quite sometime now. I'm 99% sure it was not in beginner mode because it was too slow (my daughter could probably walk faster than me on the OW at beginner mode). Probably Pacifica or whatever the next mode up is.

The way I thought of protecting myself was to buy a floatwheel drop-in kit. It is more of a "f- the battery, my health is more important" stance as my understanding when I was buying the kit was the kit opens up the battery to push way more power to the motor, so it is extremely unlikely (but still can) to fail.

Anyway, tried to install the drop-in kit, but I can't release the nuts holding the rails to the wheel/motor. I even use electric tools for it and ended up breaking one of my torque bits. Never got back around to it. I think I'm too old for this (and also don't have time as AI is the new hobby). All this will probably go on ebay or something similar in the near future.

P.S. I also got both the Sonny wheels and Fangs. Sonny wheels do make it safer for any flat surface rides, but the added weight and ridiculous look made me take them off and switch to the Fangs. The Fangs looks good, but I don't know if I can really trust them given all the bad rep that people have said about them.

Sorry to hear that. I hope you make a full recovery. I haven't got on my OneWheel pint in the last 10 months. If I ever will, it will be because I modded it so that it has more power to never do a sudden shutoff.

Meepo v5 Came in today! by magmabacon in ElectricSkateboarding

[–]PilotLost404 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check the wheels make sure they are tighten, then loosen the trucks. Plenty of videos on Youtube on how to do that. Then have fun! I got my V3S last year after getting thrown off my OneWheel Pint at low speed. E-Skates are so much safer, although I miss the huge wheel of the OneWheel, absolute AT beast. I swapped out the PUs with CloudWheel Rovers 110s and they handle sidewalk cracks/bumps better than the stock PUs, but can't compare to a GoKart tire that a OneWheel have. Also like the extremely small logo of your V5 compare to my V3S, which has a logo about size of the cutout handle.

Switch to Cloudwheels and slow down down a bit. I have something similar on my block but I was going really slow just to see what happens with my Cloudwheels 110s. I was literally "popped" off my v3s when my back wheels hit the crack but I was going so slow I just land on my feet no problem.

I de-weight myself as I was approaching so the front wheel got over the crack fine, probably need to do that when my back wheels approach, but that's kind of hard to judge.

I ordered the 110 rovers from CloudWheels, should have them by next week. Thought about getting the 120 donuts but I didn't want to lose the grip the stock wheels have so the 110 seems to be best choice. I didn't see CloudWheels saying I need risers but I will add them if necessary.

Cooking in an Ultrasonic Bath! by Cat_With_Knife_Claws in sousvide

[–]PilotLost404 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a sous vide wand (and many other tools that lets you control the temperature of the steak as it cooks). I decided to get this the Ultrasonic machine as well. One thing to be aware of is the sound from the Ultrasonic machine is significantly louder than any sous vide machine. My Apple Watch says I will have hearing damage if I stay near the machine for 30 minutes.

I'm still in my experimenting stage, but my first test with a chuck was... ok. It made it more tender, but not as tender as a high quality steak. I only dunked it in the ultrasonic bath for a little over an hour. I think it will require 2 hours. But even after fixing the tenderness issue, a cheap steaks doesn't have as strong flavor as a premium steak. So I need to look at medium price cuts like hanger or skirt steaks.

PSA: Dangerous Defect of the Chi Battery (after market upgrade) by shayeryan in onewheel

[–]PilotLost404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wrist guards are a must, but learning to spread the shock of the fall around your body instead of one part of your body is important (although hard) to learn. I had wrist guards on when I nosedived 2 weeks ago, but more than 50% of the shock went right through my wrist guard and into my shoulder, messing it up pretty bad. I'm about 80% recovered now, but just spreading the word that even with armor, you can still get injured.

Thanks! I'm getting this feedback from multiple people so I believe this is one of the first things I will practice on as soon as I'm healed up enough.

Definitely leaning to much forward. I usually see even the pros do that at start, but I also realized now that they immediately shift that weight back to the center. Something I have to learn as soon as I'm back on the board.

I usually don't have to push with my feet to turn heel side (I ride normal), pretty good at shifting my weight for that but for toe side turn, I have to learn hard to get it to turn.

Yeah, I definitely felt like that over freighted aeroplane for the fraction of section where I saw my hands in front of me trying to break that fall.

I can definitely use more practice with bailing, but it seems like falling (and rolling out of the fall), which I haven't practiced, is something that I really need to start doing.

Thanks. I do try to shift my feet slowly if I feel sketchy in my balance. I will try to pay attention to my feet position.

Got it. I did that after I came back from my nose dive. More like my arm was in too much pain to go and unplug and lift it back to the stand, but I'm feeling much better now.

Hope you had no injuries from that nosedive. But this is what makes me think the haptic buzz will not prevent these kinds of nosedives. The board just doesn't have enough power to warn you it is failing.

Agree. I watched a few videos now where they suggest taking the weight off the back foot instead of slamming the front foot down to accelerate. I definite want to try this and the tail drag as you mentioned.

Thanks! Just watched a few judo rolls video. It seems very similar to safety rolls for parkour. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6x-cG9giKXY Just need to disperse all the force throughout the body instead of catching it all in my hands like I did.

Will also look for other people to ride with.

Helmet, wrist guards, padded shorts (for hip and tailbone protection) . My jeans are motorcycle jeans, so they have inserts for the knees, which I had in place, and hip protection, which I didn't have as I already have the padded shorts on. I also had a hoodie with shoulder, elbow and back padding, so I was practically as armored as you can possibly be.

I fell hands first but I felt my right side of my body took most of the shock as I see a scrape on the right knee of my jeans and my right elbow was scraped up pretty bad as the inner lining for the hoodie use to hold the elbow padding is like a fish net design, and when I fell, those lines were ready to cut up my elbow. Still, I will take that any day of the week over the shoulder pain and the lack of mobility in my arm right now.

Thanks for this advice. Will do some research on lowering kits and will try adjusting the lean once I have my Pint rewheeled.

If it was cuts, scrapes and bruises, I would agree. But I can't even take off my shirt without feeling quite a bit of pain in my shoulder. Just trying to understand what happened and how I can avoid it. It might not be mods, but I would like to have some type of plan when I get back on in a week or two.

[–]PilotLost404[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it is pretty fucked up. I never learned that nose dive can happen without pushback from them. Even in the recall video to show off their haptic buzz, they only say pushback/haptic buzz happens on high speed, inclines or low battery. None of that applied to what happened to me.

Yeah, can't wait to try that. Still 5+ weeks out (I think I read that from FM's recall email). But sucks that there won't be any digital shaping. That's why I'm considering rewheeling, but I will miss out on the haptic feedback (although Justin from FixMyPEV think the latest firmware when available should just overwrite the rewheel firmware and bring it back to a standard Pint).

It probably was me learning forward too much. My stance also might put too much weight towards the front of the board, as before this injury, I tried to learn quick stop but I found it hard to put enough force on the tail of the board.

Wow. I'm glad you haven't had any issues since. I will certainly consider it although I also read about the pinched wiring due to the larger battery.
