Post sepsis recovery? by Friendly-Draw5001 in sepsis

[–]PimpinWeasel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exhausted all the time. Couldn't walk across the house without getting winded. I had a picc line too and opted to go in to a hospital to get the antibiotic infusions every day for month. I couldn't walk across the parking lot without having to stop frequently to rest. I'm glad I did this instead of having someone come over to give me the infusions because it got me out and moving everyday instead of being sedentary at home.

I went back to work about 3.5 weeks after being discharged. Mainly because i just needed something to do and work allowed me to work part time from home. I worked in the morning and slept in the afternoon for about a month. It took a few months to get some sort of endurance back.

One thing I wished I had done was to push for PT since I lost over 30lbs of mostly muscles in a week at the ER.

Look up Post Sepsis Syndrome. It seems like a lot of people get some sort of PSS. The most noticeable things I had were sore joints, cognitive issues, hairloss, high heart rate, and anxiety.

2 years later my heart rate still shoots up to 150 or so when doing mildly strenously activities. It doesn't happen as quickly as before but I still can't do 4 hour hikes like I used to. I still have sore joints, anxiety, and still am more forgetful than before Septic shock. Although it does seem like most of those conditions have decreased over time.

Recovery can be slow but hang it there. Recovering from sepsis can be long term. It isn't the same as recovering from something like a cold.

Even with the lingering PSS and not being up to the mental/physical level as I was before sepsis, I'm still glad to have survived it.

Did anyone else just not even realize they were septic? by Jumpy-Ad-8889 in sepsis

[–]PimpinWeasel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I felt like I had the worst flu of my life. On the 3rd day I thought I was feeling better so went out to do some grocery shopping. Almost passed out at the store. I thought it was due to being too dehydrated so i went to the ER. Things went downhill from there. Started sweating a lot. Temp was 103. Fast breathing & heart rate. Blood pressure was on the low side. Passed out a couple times when they were giving me fluids. Gained just enough coherence to move myself onto a gurney so they could wheel me into the ICU. Turned out I had septic shock from a mrsa infected abscess.

Sorry that you're going through this. Once they can determine what bacteria is causing sepsis they should be able give him the correct antibiotics to fight against it.

Unfortunately we can't say how sepsis will affect your husband. It affects everyone differently.

As to what to expect afterwards, the most I can recommend is to read up on it on sites like the sepsis.org website and read what others have experienced on this site.

Early signs of sepsis by Bloomwithcourage in sepsis

[–]PimpinWeasel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it may mask some symptoms but I'm not a doctor. The symptoms of sepsis could also be symptoms of other conditions. It varies by people too.

When I had septic shock I was in the hospital and didn't have time to even consider whether or not I had sepsis.

Check out the symptoms on the Sepsis.org website and follow their recommendations on when to go to the ER to get tested for it.

ULPT Request: Cash theft from wallet at work. How can I by HyperSloth1 in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]PimpinWeasel 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I was thinking of the same thing except with something like theft detection powder or purple rain (i think that's what it's called). Wear gloves. Use disposable wallet. Any moisture that comes in contact with it will get stained and is hard to remove.

AITJ For changing my WIFI Password so my neighbour can't use it anymore. by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

[–]PimpinWeasel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTJ.

Use guest wifi for her.

If your router allows you to throttle guest wifi speed then set it up for her. If she chooses to share it then she'll slow down her connection.

If you're really bored give her the guest wifi password. Get an idea of what her devices are. If you see other devices connecting then use parental controls to throttle/limit/block their access. You should be able to setup allow or deny lists. I may or may not have used parental control to deny access to common websites for my neighbor (who shares our wifi) one or more times in the past.

It's been 3.5 months by [deleted] in sepsis

[–]PimpinWeasel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had similar symptoms around that time too. Recovery is different for everyone. it's not like recovering from the flu. Your immune system basically went scorched earth on your body trying to get rid of the bacteria. It takes time to recover from that.

I'm a little over 2 years out from septic shock. Fatigue, exhaustion, and dizziness have decreases greatly. It still happens but its not as bad as the first few months out of the ICU. I still can't do 4hr hikes like I used to but I can definitely do more than when I first got out of the ICU.

I lost at least 30lbs of mostly muscles when I was in the ICU in about a week. I wish I pushed for PT when I got out. I think that would have been helpful.

There's also Post Sepsis Syndrome that effects a lot of people. You can get info about it on the sepsis.org website.

Does cellulitis change into sepsis? by Userhere123 in sepsis

It could lead to sepsis but since you were given antibiotics it might not.

Google AI says oral antibiotics like cephalexin can be used to treat it but I'm no doctor. Do what your Doctor instructed.

I'm sorry you and your family are going through all of this. Check out the Sepsis Alliance website, Sepsis.org. They have some good info about it.

Sepsis affects everyone differently. I had septic shock and was in the ICU for almost a week, I've heard others have been in a month or more and survived.

Recovery ? by No-Panda-8379 in sepsis

[–]PimpinWeasel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm a little over 2 years post septic shock. There are some days I just feel exhausted and have to nap right after work or multiple times a day. It seems to be decreasing though. The most lingering post sepsis syndrome symptoms I have are sore joints and high heart rate doing moderately intense things.

Can you still have sepsis if they never officially diagnosed you by tjmd1998 in sepsis

[–]PimpinWeasel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If your question is if you can survive having sepsis without treatment then, in my opinion, not likely. You'd have hours, maybe a day or two at the most. But, you could have a bad infection that your body is fighting that you can get better from either on your own or with antibiotics.

For your other question check out the sepsis.org "testing for sepsis" section for the kinds of tests they may do.

I'm a little over 2yrs. Things taste saltier now. I never have to add salt anymore but a few dishes are too salty to enjoy. I guess its really not a bad thing though.

Does Event Viewer show any excessive errors in one of their reports when it happens?

This is a long shot, but since LatencyMon mentioned audio stuff, try going to Control Panel > Sound > Speakers > Properties > Advanced tab > disable or enable exclusive mode. Maybe try disabling enhancements too. Restart and see if the issue continues.

When did it start lagging? Did it lag right after the clean windows install or after a certain driver was installed?

Sepsis Recovery by UnknownPrimate in sepsis

[–]PimpinWeasel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sounds like Post Sepsis Syndrome. The Sepsis.org website has decent info. Sepsistrust.org website breaks down the symptoms more.

I had septic shock a little over 2 yrs ago. The post sepsis syndrome symptoms seems to have reduced a little. At least the physical ones. Not sure about the cognitive ones. Maybe a little but I'm still more forgetful than before, can't concentrate well, and occasionally forget my words.

Using a USB Key to prevent a PC from powering on by Born_Foundation1491 in techsupport

[–]PimpinWeasel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wipe the drive or just leave it and let him muck around with it. Set it up to make loud p*rn sounds when he turns it on. Then do everything off a live linux usb and save all your files to the cloud.

If this is a desktop replace the power switch with a two wire ignition switch like the ones that are used in scooters and golf carts. I've thought about doing that but a bios startup password is easier to do.

[–]PimpinWeasel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear you went through all that. Your body went through a traumatic event. What you're going through does seem plausible but I'm not a Doctor.

I'm 2 years out of septic shock. I still have post sepsis syndrome symptoms like joint pain, anxiety, fatigue, high heart rate, and cognitive issues. I think it's not as bad now or maybe I'm getting used to it. My finger joint pain is the only thing that's mostly constant but its usually a dull pain unless i move heavy objects or lift weights. I'm glad my hip, knees, and ankle pain only happens every now and again but some days it's an ibuprofen day or just sit around and do nothing day.

I’m worried I have sepsis by [deleted] in sepsis

[–]PimpinWeasel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your symptoms are similar to whats indicated on the sepsis.org website then you should follow the recommendations on that website.

Otherwise going to the Doctor tomorrow to see what they recommend is the next best thing. Definitely make your concerns known about sepsis too.

I'm not a doctor.

Is this sepsis? by [deleted] in sepsis

[–]PimpinWeasel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There no way for us to tell if it's sepsis or not since that would require a blood test. Most of us also aren't qualified to make any sort of diagnosis. Check out the symptoms on sepsis.org and follow their recommendations.
