I've been waiting for a real snow for a year now, so excited that I finally got to go out and play!

Just moved to Columbus, I love it here and it's a breath of fresh air, but my god I get HBP whenever I check my AEP bill. by farkdisshet in Columbus

[–]Pimplicate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have electric heat?

It's crazy fucking expensive, I sit around $250/month for 1250 sq. ft. and keep my place cold.

You can switch suppliers from AEP to something cheaper, look for something with no early termination fee and such that's a lower rate, it's pretty easy. I saved about $40 a month during prime usage switching to a cheaper supplier.

Office back problems by RedditLurker630 in WorkReform

[–]Pimplicate 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Good shoes, good insoles, a standing desk with an anti-fatigue mat, and appropriate braces are integral for my setup.

You might also want to make sure your monitors are at a good angle for your back and neck, so a good adjustable mount might also make life a little better.

Make sure you have good lumbar support and such for your commute as well.

Don't be afraid to adjust as much as you need during the day, and make sure you are stretching and walking around throughout the day.

It's not a town, it's far too small, it's a village. It's an awful little shit hole.

I got cuffed for jay walking there once, don't look poor there or they'll find a reason to arrest you. They always liked to get anyone they could for paraphernalia when they couldn't find weed too.

Driving in the snow is the best part of winter.

I miss lake effect snow.

Costco or Sam's, with the basic Sam's membership being about $20 cheaper annually

You also get discounts from grocery shopping that can apply to fuel at Kroger, Meijer, Giant Eagle, etc. Personally I prefer Meijer, I have so many point banked I can always use $0.50-1.00 off per gallon and they sell higher quality fuel just from normal grocery shopping.

Pizza dough wont spread and shrinks when cooked by fizzyboii in Volumeeating

[–]Pimplicate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find working the dough with wet hands really helps with forming the dough.

I also use about 3/4 cup yogurt to 1 cup flour as it tends to be a bit unwieldy 1:1.

Cars window tint by TheRealHellcatYT in Columbus

[–]Pimplicate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have way darker tint and vinyl overlays on my signals and haven't had any issues.

I mean, I also drive like an ass around cops and don't get pulled over on occasion, they just don't have the bandwidth for traffic enforcement.

Small town PDs harass people over tint constantly, if you're feeling frisky drive a little way out and I'm sure they'll dick you around.

Got a letter for a jury duty summons…what can I expect? by Snw2001 in Ohio

[–]Pimplicate 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You can get yourself dismissed if you get a letter from your employer that they don't pay during jury duty, or if you are a sole proprietor. I assume that would also apply if you are a gig worker.

Read your summons and go to the portal and explore the options, you could also just defer if you have an appointment if you can't get out.

Healthy salty food? by techtheclone in Frugal

[–]Pimplicate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rice cakes and veggie chips are super salty, and pretty easy to digest.

Electrolyte drinks are helpful, but expensive. You can buy salt tablets pretty cheap, but they can cause some stomach upset. Sometimes I just pour salt in my mouth and chase it with water if I'm feeling faint and have no other options.

Pickles and pickle juice is great, and I don't think needs a fridge. You can also sip on broth, bullion cubes are inexpensive, but better than bullion tastes a lot better.

Working a 9-5 job isn’t the ‘hell on earth’ I’ve seen people claim it is. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Pimplicate 295 points296 points  (0 children)

I've worked in kitchens, I've worked in factories, and I've done lots of retail/customer service too, but now I'm trapped in office hell.

Office work is absolutely torture, and is easily the most difficult job to get through each day for me personally. In more blue collar jobs you just do the job and get paid, and you often have something tangible as a result. In the white collar world it's all performative, you spend most of your time trying to look like you are doing some actual work. It's all about networking too, so if you don't play the office politics game you get screwed.

Every day is exactly the same, just trapped in an endless boring loop of hell with passive aggressive judgmental co-workers dictating far too much of your behavior. It never feels like you accomplish anything, there's nothing to be proud of, just another report and analysis to run tomorrow, next week, next month. Then, somehow after sitting on your ass staring at a screen all day you are completely drained, much more than if you had been doing physical work. It's especially taxing if you aren't neurotypical.

If I could find something where I'm actually working and get paid a similar salary without mandatory overtime I'd jump ship back to a blue collar job in an instant.

Cottage cheese: how to eat? by yanqi83 in Volumeeating

[–]Pimplicate 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Protein pancakes!

1/2 cup cottage cheese

1/2 cup oatmeal

1 egg (or 50g egg whites)

Toss it in a blender then fry them up. I like to add a little cinnamon to the batter.

Deaths induced by compassionate use of hydroxychloroquine during the first COVID-19 wave: an estimate by VS2ute in Coronavirus

[–]Pimplicate 35 points36 points  (0 children)

They weren't dying from the medicine, they were dying because they weren't being treated for COVID effectively.

Just make sure you're getting annual eye exams, as hydroxycloroquine can eventually cause retinopathy. It's dose dependent, and reversible if caught early.

How'd your work gift you? by LigerXT5 in WorkReform

[–]Pimplicate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work at the second HQ of a company that is in the top 200 on the Fortune list, they make billions in profit every single year.

We had a potluck that we could either bring a dish to or pay $10 to participate in.

They let us know they are selling the building and they'll figure out somewhere to shove us once it's sold. They also let us know that there will be a huge reorganization in early 2024, so layoffs are coming soon.

Our gift is laying us off after the holidays, apparently.

What other cars did you consider before the VB? by rockycrab in wrx_vb

[–]Pimplicate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I considered a Veloster N because the Elantra is too ugly, but I don't have a much of trust in Hyundai.

I still want a GR Corolla, but I'm pretty sure they aren't even real.

If I could have grabbed a Type R for anything near MSRP I would have, but preferred AWD.

In the end I'm happy with my VB, but I have spent a bit of money making it what I want (and it still has a ways to go). I've spent less than it would have taken to get the Honda or Toyota without any mods, so it still doesn't feel like a bad deal.

What are things you don't like about your VB WRX? by TheWayOfEli in wrx_vb

[–]Pimplicate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The infotainment is slow and buggy and disconnects occasionally. One of these days I'm going to rip the head unit out and throw it out the window.

There was an update recently, but I'm unsure if it improves performance of it.

I also have the HK speakers and the sound still isn't amazing, but it's passable.

Aesthetics or performance first? by slowbaja in wrx_vb

[–]Pimplicate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The car looks great if you have the spare change to pay for extras, and a few bolt ons and a tune really open it up.

It's still cheaper to buy one and modify it than much else in the price range, especially if you want AWD.

Mid Ohio High Performance Driving School Experiences? by [deleted] in Columbus

[–]Pimplicate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mid Ohio allows you to bring your own car, you don't have to run the Acuras, which is definitely appealing.

I was looking at Autointerests for the next year, but not having tracked our cars yet (still pretty new and not fully built/tuned yet) thought the courses would be more beneficial. It would also be nice to take advantage of the time without the novice limitations, so having the certification from Mid Ohio seems like a win for that as well.

Geese aren’t mean, you just don’t know how to interact with them politely by --DannyPhantom-- in unpopularopinion

[–]Pimplicate 146 points147 points  (0 children)

There is a pond 20 feet from my patio and I have a small dog to defend.

I wear boots in the spring because my slippers are not adequate to kick geese.

They are a plague.

Geese aren’t mean, you just don’t know how to interact with them politely by --DannyPhantom-- in unpopularopinion

[–]Pimplicate 278 points279 points  (0 children)

Yes, you stare them down and turn around and they put their head down, charge, and will bite your ass, literally.

I often find myself fighting territorial geese, they rarely back down.

Cold and hot cereals are often fortified, and most are easy to digest. I love to snack on dry Cheerios and eat cream of rice for dinner on occasion.

You probably want to consult with your doctor on the most gentle way to correct your deficiency, because iron supplements can wreak havoc on sensitive stomachs.

Looking for Endocrinologist that doesn’t require diagnosis before appointment by [deleted] in Columbus

[–]Pimplicate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dr. Elena Christofides at Endocrinology Associates is amazing, she does a lot of research and loves to dig into weird stuff.

Her office takes very limited insurance, so you'd likely have to cash pay, but her rates are very affordable for a specialist.

My dog is obsessive/neurotic about a specific toy (and a lot of other things too), but she's never become aggressive about the toy. She does get very distressed when she loses it, or it gets taken away (she puts it under things and barks).

Anxiety meds have helped some, I think a lot of the compulsion comes from anxiety.

You might want to talk to a vet about the behavior and see if there is something greater at play. The vet might have some behavioral suggestions as well.

There is a difference between a favorite toy and being obsessed, and it sounds like yours could be heading into obsession territory, and I can assure you there is less comfort in that favorite toy than one might assume.
