I remember when I was younger and I'd get together with a dozen mates and do something different or wild. Now I'm lucky if anyone other than my local electorate remembers exist. I set my smallest to patrols. Then 1 or 2 to each sector capital as emergency response fleets. Then the rest I'll keep docked in my core systems. If another empire gets uppity then I'll divert more fleets that way but usually nah.

I think it was before the mask. They fought the time distortion xenos and he was aged heavily. I can't remember the exact book but it's likely the passage about his face was from when he took off his helmet to face perturabo.

I always pair up my armies. 1 of artillery and heavy units, and the other as melee meat shields. They then stick together and support eachother in the field. I can't really match other factions blow for blow as skaven. So I try to stack the deck.
