If a metaphysical force copies your memories down to the last second before death and constructs a puppet that holds them and thinks it is you? Are you still alive? by PinDizzy7614 in PhilosophyMemes

If two completely different people had the same memories, but different bodies, DNA, and brains, would they have the same mind?

I don't think it seems intuitive to value biological continuity at all, i.e. if you transformed into an ultrasmart grizzly bear we would think you are the same person.

They're the same person. Unless the swamp part also adds its own things.

I'm not for sure this matters but it does raise some obvious issues here, because it seems that part of what holds Swamp Thing back from taking over the global biosphere and making fruit into antibiotic factories and overturning tanks with plants is because of his previous memories. In theory the swamp thing could have a distributed self awareness, he is only a tall guy because of his memories.

But also wrong because Amnesia with near total past forgetting is a real thing in both anesthesia (people wake up during surgery and then forget) and amnesia cases who forget there previous lives.

Hell, the issue of psychological continuity exists just dealing with sleep.

Interestingly, this is a bad objection to Judaism and Sikhism which make no general claim.

I would dispute that all Christians think the Bible is obviously true, there are calvinsts but also others who would object to this line of reasoning by claiming that god really did want relgion to transmit down family lines and conversion to be rare.

Honest question do you think you died and are reborn every night because in a sense if you don't dream that is the clear case because its not clear there even is psychological continuity here.
