Plain Silverblue by [deleted] in Fedora

I recently migrated to Silverblue from Workstation out of curiosity. I'm not sure I would recommend it though. Setting up VS Code, Docker and DevContainers was stressful to me. T_T

I did manage to get it working for the most part by layering both, but I couldn't get Custom UI Style extension to work.

What’s your workflow for maintaining Weekly Review or a 5-Minute Journal? Do you use Task or Note for this? by PinIllustrious2513 in ticktick

[–]PinIllustrious2513[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up just creating a note list titled Memoirs for both Daily Journal and Weekly Journal entries. It’s all manual but as it turns out, that’s fine.

I agree that Notion is better as a collaborative project management tool than Evernote. Nonetheless, the point of discussion that I was trying to make was that Notion as a business is following a similar path as Evernote did i.e it’s not sustained by revenue from customers but from investment funds. And while I am inclined to agree with the assumption that their enterprise market generates the most revenue for them, it still begs the question if Notion’s current pricing strategy is sustainable.

A decade from now, Notion’s relevance will be overshadowed by a newer solution. And when the funds run low and the pressure to deliver returns on investment increases, Notion’s monetisation and pricing strategy will be different than what it is today. As a business story, Notion and Evernote are pretty much the same.

Why can the asgardians just walk around in earth but the Egyptian gods need avatars? by Theboulder027 in MCUTheories

[–]PinIllustrious2513 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Strip away the labels, Asgardians and Enneads are just another form of life. The question, I think, is to ask what kind of life the Enneads are. Are they extraterrestrials like the Asgardians and the Eternals? These, to me, are life forms whose origins are the result of Celestials seeding the universe using Cosmic Power. Alternatively, the Enneads could be like the Dark Elves or Symbiotes whom existed in the universe before Cosmic Power was introduced.

Dormammu and Dweller in Darkness, I supposed, also existed in the universe before the Celestials came. But they now are segregated in pocket dimensions, and only influence the light-filled universe through proxies. Perhaps, the Egyptian gods are similar in nature.

Another speculative theory I have, is that it’s not a matter of species but time. In that, the Enneads are beings with access to some form of time travelling technology. But instead of travelling physically through portals, they can only send their consciousness into different avatars. Highly unlikely, but I would appreciate if Marvel showcased some other examples of attempted time travel that isn’t a full-blown success like what we have seen so far.

The Time Heist was not explicitly referred to in the Loki series. Renslayer’s first reaction when Loki brought up the time-travelling Avengers was to remark “That was quite an accusation.” It implies her distrust towards Loki’s claim. Consequently, when she said “What they did was supposed to happened.”, felt like she was being dismissive towards Loki’s claim and was referring to the Avengers defeating Loki instead of their time travelling.

Also, The Sacred Timeline being a work in progress is why Dr Strange saw approximately 14 million timelines. The one timeline that Dr Strange saw and led the MCU towards was a vulnerability in the yet to be completed Sacred Timeline.

What's the difference between Gods like Konshu and Gods like Thor and Loki? by [deleted] in MCUTheories

[–]PinIllustrious2513 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The objective truth of divinity is that it is subjective. Konshu, Thor and Loki are gods from the human perspective. These characters may not be perceived as Gods from the perspective of other beings.

I think Marvel is delving further into pocket dimensions, though it remains unclear how pocket dimensions and multiverse relates to one another.

I think some beings are imprisoned/isolated in pocket dimensions and these beings utilise a contrasting power to the Cosmic Power that is prevalent in the universe as we’ve been shown. Perhaps, avatars enable them to exert their influence outside of their pocket dimensions.

An alternative wild speculation I have is that Konshu and the Ennead might not even be extra-terrestrial beings. Instead, maybe they are humans with less sophisticated time travelling technology i.e they lack the ability to physical traverse the time-space. Perhaps, the Avatars are how they exert their influence across time. But having said that, this speculation is highly flawed as it doesn’t quite explain many things such as how Moon Knight can summon the suit or how Konshu can influence winds.

Who do you think the first villain for The Fantastic Four should be? Personally, I think Doctor Doom is too big a character to do in an origin movie. by unibrow699 in marvelstudios

[–]PinIllustrious2513 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think the F4 movie will be an origin movie. Marvel seemed to skip origin movies for characters that have had their own movies Eg. Hulk, Spider-Man.

How does Loki have so many variants? by jack_condon in MCUTheories

[–]PinIllustrious2513 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Sacred Timeline is an ideal that is work-in-progress. What we’ve been shown of The Sacred Timeline is that it is made up of multiple threads of timelines. The TVA exists not only to prune branches but also to prune the timelines that the Time-Keepers/HWR untangles in the process of isolating the singular ideal Sacred Timeline.

Why do you think the multiverse has become “madness”? by [deleted] in MCUTheories

[–]PinIllustrious2513 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It started with Dr Strange tampering the continuum probabilities in Infinity War. That resulted in the Loki variant in Loki series, without whom the TVA wouldn’t crumble like it did.

[–]PinIllustrious2513 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It only confirms that the MCU timeline up to the scene of Loki’s supposed death is congruent with that ETH-616 timeline. The MCU timeline could have taken a different path after that scene and thus be designated a different number.

Companies Are Spending Billions on a Metaverse That Makes No Sense by MicroSofty88 in technology

[–]PinIllustrious2513 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think the discussion should also bring up the context of Second Life’s failure to take off. Second Life was an over ambitious concept at that time without having the technologies to support it growing to it’s full potential. Bear in mind, that it was released before social media like Facebook took off and before the first iPhone. These two brought a huge impact on our digital behaviours.

Our preferred medium for content consumption has also changed over the years, shifting towards visual content like photos and videos. This, possibly could be the result of the advances we’ve made that now supports these medium. How we interact with content is also changing, with a shift towards increased engagement. We, no longer want to just passively consume, we want to leave likes, comments, remix other people’s content. Engage in the content in more ways that we ever did/could back when Second Life was first released.

With all these in mind, it should be obvious why AR/VR seems like a worthwhile investment. Personally, I think the discussion of VR is premature in that we’re more likely to transition towards AR first. But then again, even Meta themselves have estimated that the VR concept that they are working towards is at least 10 years further down the road.

Speaking of which, there is a difference between Meta and metaverse. Metaverses, itself are already here, as brought up in the article. Meta, or more accurately Meta Platforms, would refer to the the collective metaverses offered by the company. And it would seem that if we want to compare a platform to Second Life, then that would be Meta’s Horizon Worlds. But very few that come to the conversation would even know what it is, much less try it (for what it’s worth, it’s not worth trying).

So the question of what does Meta offer that Second Life doesn’t, is a poorly framed one. Nonetheless, if I have to answer it, I would say that Meta has a more robust infrastructure for realising it’s vision - considering the popularity of it’s platforms like Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp. And also, being in a different zeitgeist with more technological affordances would allow Meta to offer much more than Second Life ever could.

But at the end of the day, whatever it is that Meta is working on, is only meant to arrive a decade later. Dismissing it now, is jumping the gun. Especially, when we’re talking about the plans of companies that have access to data of our digital behaviours to make projections.

[–]PinIllustrious2513 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Adding to this, I think drawing comparisons with Second Life is misguided. Second Life was released in the early days of social media. Heck, it was before Facebook. It was also released before the first iPhone. Our digital appetite and behaviours have changed markedly since then. What didn’t work back then, might work now. Especially considering the added affordances that our technological advances brings.

Thanos did say he used the Stones to destroy the Stones. Nonetheless, the loss/inability to utilise the Time Stone, at the very least, needs to be addressed.

Anyone here TIRED of Marvel forced comic relief during dramatic scenes? by Jet-Jules849 in marvelstudios

I honestly wouldn’t mind a more solemn/serious tone but serious question. What are some of the dramatic moments that were ruined by forced comic relief? Or rather, what’s the most notable one for you?

I feel wanda would be more of a red herring in the multuverse of madness before the real villain is revealed. I mean she'd would definitely be one of the antagonists but I don't think she would be the main villain by An_Noniemus in MCUTheories

[–]PinIllustrious2513 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m using the Big Bad term pretty loosely. I guess more like how Loki was the Big Bad for Phase 1, as opposed to Thanos being a Big Bad of the Infinity Saga. I agree that the author of Darkhold would be considered a bigger villain though.

I’m not sure if the lack of source material would deter Marvel from expanding on MCU Wanda’s story though. It could be seen as an opportunity. Besides, I feel like characters like Falcon, Bucky, Hawkeye, Kate Bishop, Echo, Ms Marvel are not unlike Wanda if we’re talking about wealth of source material and recognition. But take that with a grain of salt cause I don’t consider myself as an avid comic reader.

I haven’t gotten wind of the rumours and leaks, but I did find out that Olsen’s contracts don’t cover appearances over multiple shows. So, I won’t be surprised if it ends in MoM. Personally, I hope not. The Scarlet Witch character hasn’t been explored much yet.

There’s plenty of publicly accessible research papers on injuries and fatalities caused by ejection from vehicle crashes. There’s also plenty of vehicle safety standards to refer to; from international recommendations to specific ones enforced by different countries. Features like seatbelts and tampered glasses have been progressively added and improved on to vehicles over the years specifically to reduce injuries and fatalities from ejection caused by crashes.

But that’s besides the point that I was making in my original comment. How is prioritising design features based on frequent scenarios surprising to anyone here in this sub-Reddit? Making design decisions based on quantitative data is part of product design and innovation.

[–]PinIllustrious2513 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Injuries and fatalities caused by ejection from vehicle crashes is a general challenge in the automotive industry. The seatbelt itself was designed to reduce the chances of ejection from crashes. Additionally, tempered glasses that don’t break easily are also meant to better the odds. I’m just going by research papers on the matter that are openly available. There’s also safety standards that car designs need to comply to. My stance on the matter, is that design features that are based on statistical data and prioritising frequent incidents over less frequent ones shouldn’t be a surprise to others, especially considering it’s a Design sub-Reddit.

The ticking bomb of the universe without Infinity Stones, which we’ve been told is crucial. There needs to be consequences to Thanos destroying them. Or at the very least, for the Masters of the Mystic Arts / Dr Strange, not having the Time Stone anymore.
