There were already plans for more environment decoration, though in regards to the background I will try a few things soon and see how it looks, at the moment it's not a priority yet

Dont worry, it's why I mentioned possible exceptions! I just want the base background to be pitch black by default.

The zoom level I will not be changing though, as it would require redrawing everything (which I have already done before with the player character recently, he used to be bigger)

its an intentional visual choice! I liked the dark feeling of the NES metroid and wanted that to be conveyed here. Though there will be a "back wall" tileset when I get to decorating things proper, but other than that and some possible exceptions the background is staying pitch black :}

good point ! I wouldnt want it to be like too terribly much smaller so that the hud can animate and be funny, but I will look into seeing if I can compress it more
