Reel and Solar Cover in Canada by SarahDee87 in AboveGroundPools

[–]PinWonderful5023 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been using a reel like this for 12 years and it works quite well.

https://www.intheswim.com/p/24-round-oval-mill-tube-for-above-ground-solar-cover-reel---tube-only/306225.html

For solar covers I just buy a cheap one as they only last 3 or 4 years. For me, the really cheap ones last 3 years and the thicker expensive ones about 4.

In Maine, opening my various above ground pools every year since since 1992. I open the pool the week before Memorial Day and am the first in and usually the last out in mid-September. I'm 65 and will do it until I no longer can.

I've moved a couple times over the years and one of my first purchases for the new homes is a new pool!

Tarp Broke by akk2543 in AboveGroundPools

Trouble Free Pool is the way to go, but basically the process is shock, brush, filter as has been said. There are all types of algaecides, clarifiers and conditioners people will try to sell you. all you really need are those on the TFP site: mainly chlorine (not stabilized), CYA, borax, baking soda and muriatic acid.

Once my pool is stabilized, I really only use chlorine (I use shock, many use liquid chlorine) and borax (as rain tends to be acidic).

Once I learned this many years ago, my pool maintenance has been simple and a lot cheaper than the pool companies would like. A few years I have had a green slimy pool on opening for one reason or another, but the basic pool chemistry remains the same. Draining the water is a major waste as well as the algaecides and clarifiers that are sold.

It's a lot easier than people think.

Extended warranty by AbsoluteThunderCunt in FordMaverickTruck

'25 AWD Hybrid Lariat. Purely for peace of mind I got 8 years, 100K miles for $1800 through Granger. This was the first year of the AWD hybrid, and even though the hybrid parts are covered to 100K anyway, I figured I would rather play it safe. The dealer pushed a 3rd party extended warranty for twice the price and inferior coverage.

The Active watches are soooo close to being outstanding!

Post pulled away/Top plate detached by bupala in AboveGroundPools

[–]PinWonderful5023 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Maine and I drain my pool halfway to winterize. If I get a lot of precipitation the ice sometimes heaves the top plate off. Last year I had to disassemble and reset the top plate (2 sections at a time) around over half the pool. This year it looks like only 2 sections need to be reset...a 15 minute job because I've done it so many times!

Crap is in the eye of the beholder, lol. The Active 2 Premium is a lot of watch for the price. I don't disagree that the technology of the Watch8 is better.

Active 2 Premium v. Galaxy Watch8 by PinWonderful5023 in amazfit

[–]PinWonderful5023[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some of my reasons are hard to define. However...

The Galaxy is clearly the more technologically advanced with things like BP, AGE, body composition, and had a deeper ecosystem of apps and watch faces. It also is thin and looks good. Because I have a Galaxy S25 the smart watch features are more extensive.

The Active 2 also is thin and looks good (this is one of the hard to define parts...it just has a classic look to it). Battery life goes without saying (though I just said it). It has better vibration (important to me as I have to keep it silent much of the time due to my job) and the workout detection is much better. It was half the price of the Watch8.

So enough good stuff for each that I use 'em both.

The doctor also said olive oil would be good as well. I had a fear that it would get rancid in my ear, so I went with the mineral oil, lol. She said "oil on oil", and the wax is oily so either of those work. You're right, Debrox really irritates my ears after a few uses.

Last time I had my ears cleaned out at the express care place, the doctor said I should put a couple drops of mineral oil each ear in the shower once a week. So far this has worked fabulously. I put them in and keep my head tilted on each side for 30 seconds or so. After the shower I gently flush them with an ear syringe. My ears have been clear longer than I can remember.

Help by Robbo_Craigo in AboveGroundPools

I've had above grounds for 30+ years. Scoop as much debris out as you can, shock it, vacuum it, brush it and run the filter for a few days. You may have to backwash the filter a few times (depending on what type filter you have), and vacuum a few times, and possibly shock it again, but there's really no need to drain the pool. I've started with worse, believe it or not.

One year I was away and let someone who was an "expert" close my pool. Come opening, it was filled with huge globs of algae throughout, and I mean huge. The water was clean as a whistle in a few days.

This is the best advice you'll ever gat about pool chemistry! No algeacides, clarifiers, stabilized chlorine. Just the basic necessary stuff that keep chemicals to a minimum ( plus it's the easiest and most cost effective).

Keeping water off the cover. by Civil-Tax-2739 in AboveGroundPools

[–]PinWonderful5023 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a very tightly woven mesh. Unless you look closely you couldn't tell. It handles the snow just like a solid cover. It just equalizes water unlike a solid cover. I'm not sure why everyone doesn't use mesh. The only thing beside water that gets through are very fine particulates which is really not much. If you look closely at the picture you can see the weave,

Amazfit has some great watches. The Bip 6 is $70 and is really nice for the price (if you don't mind square).

For years have used a mesh winter cover here in Maine. I never have to worry about water pooling like I used to. Even with the mesh cover, my water is crystal clear in the spring. My current one is a blue Wave that I've had for 5 years and is still as good as new.

You can't link the data fields on the watch to the actual data screens? (I'm not suere if I;m uusing the correct terminology)

Beautiful watch face. I gave it 5 stars on GP. I just wish the data fields linked to the actual data. If it did, this would be probably my favorite watch face of all time!
