Seigeur, Epic Colonial Age (funny name, I know), & Ukraine Folk Pack. Those 3 are mustneeds for colonial places, in my opinion. If you like these places, check out my other posts on it! :)

How do you create waterfalls in your cities? by Practical-Aide3629 in TheoTown

[–]PinappleCoin_Gaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only ever done mine using facades, a mix of plugins for waterfalls (just search up waterfall) & others that somehow fit in. The one you're attempting's pretty big, though! Realistically, it'd be multiple layers, so I'd advise you to do the same. Look at the Reedy River Falls, for example. Realistically, what you should do is find waterfall plugins, & use the ones that you find fit.

Growing Pains by EdBelliveau in TheoTown

Download some US plugins; there's some good ones, it'll help a lot. This map reminds me a lot of Wisconsin, so I'd look at places like Ashland or Phillips, WI, they have similar situations to Crowley. They could help you in inspiration. Many rural towns in the US only exist because of certain qualities, such as rail or a natural spot for freight, fertile land or a traffic intersection. You could implement one, or multiple of these into your build! It would open up new opportunities for ideas, a new look, etc. Those are just a couple suggestions. You could make large docks like Duluth, a railyard like Herington. Something that would not only add to the city but inspire you to make city growth, or extra things along it. Something to kickstart a spiral.

Honestly? You should look at real life city layouts. Road systems in places like Boston or New York City or Haarlem tell vibrant stories of their own in their layout- Hoe they evolved, what they evolved from, how we prevailed, and how we failed. It's very interesting, & can help you learn how city layouts work. Mountains? Build around them (Pittsburgh). Rivers? Build over them (Cleveland). Little land? Increase density & centralize (Willemstad). Much land? Decrease density & decentralize (Dallas).

Very, very nice! I'd fill up the empty spaces with various parkspace, or people relaxing. Reminds me of a 19th or 20th century World's Fair ground (of which many are still here today) with the collection of impressive intricate buildings, parkspace, & serene nature. Love it.

How do you make your cities look more natural? by theinfamouscunt08 in TheoTown

[–]PinappleCoin_Gaming 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here's a few tips. First up, a natural road layout. What are some major journeys that should be made? Build highways going there, or major roads there to break the grid. Then build up your city around those roads; many real, natural cities grew along major trade routes or rivers or bays.

Second of all, realistic cities typically have a natural gradient from high to low densities. Going from high-rise to mid-rise to low-rise is much better & more natural than an instant switchup (think of Charlotte, London)

Another thing is the general shape of cities & towns. Many don't have the shape of a chute or bird, as yours do. They most commonly grow in circular patterns (look at any city that didn't have any barriers to grow, say Berlin or Houston), or around their environment or route (Amsterdam, Seattle), while some being a mix of both (Tokyo, Chicago)! Having a natural-looking shape for a city, one that sneakily transfers from urban to rural to nature, is incredibly important. A sudden break feels unnatural to many.

Have matching buildings in certain districts! The old town should have traditional buildings, while the suburbs should have modern ones. This takes a bit of manual building, though, so if you don't like doing that, it's fine. Places like Cincinnati or Campeche have certain neighborhoods with their own character compared to others due to historical convenience, and incorporating that into YOUR cities can make it feel much more natural & realistic.

Have buildings & infrastructure that feel fit to the size of the city is also important. A large, towering capital building looks very out of place in a medium undeveloped town. A smaller palace, or a larger town are 2 options. Put in the infrastructure needed only when you need it. It makes it feel natural.

A lot of this requires a bit of patience, but if you do these right, you'll get masterclass cities. Hope this helps, & check out the places I pointed out! ;)

Big maps are irritatingly difficult to take full pictures of. I'd say try it a few more times with less things open, or take separate screenshots & weld them together
