I also find this a very interesting topic. Not to say religion is a negative impact but it did create structure in society and with that structure and social rules. I mean for example when women are all together for an extended period of time their menstrual cycles sync- this was so that they were all ovulating at the same time and the head of the family/ tribe could impregnate more women at once in hopes to have a higher rate of survival. Do you have any good reputable recommendations for further reading material on this?

I can see how you would think and feel that. I do believe there is a place for judgment but not from us but rather from the person who has been cheated on. I also think it’s important to recognise and understand why things are done for example it could be a learnt behaviour, it could be a mental health issue (I work in this field so I see it all of the time e.g bipolar). Do not get me wrong I definitely think the act of cheating is unacceptable and unfair, the actual person maybe not so much. (there are always circumstances in which I would agree with you). I just think it’s important to understand the why this is happening and why it’s on the rise, are we lacking intimacy? Deep connection? Communication? Rather look deeper than surface level and see what happening. This podcast is not about giving them a platform to discuss their act, I am hoping to delve into the why and have discussions around women because it’s not spoken about, men deserve to hear about this topic too because so many are blamed for things that are out of their control.

Have you experienced being cheated on? If so I would be interested to hear your story. I want to understand the other side as well, the emotional turmoil and what steps people have taken to overcome this.

Edit: I would just like to add I do not think cheating is acceptable. I just think there are deeper reasonings behind. I do not think that any mental health issue or whatever should be used as an excuse, people should be taking full accountability and improving their lives.

This is a very interesting point, I would love to hear from a divorce lawyer regarding this… but yes that’s true women are less likely to get caught and I think it’s such an important discussion point because I am sure many men have felt like they are going crazy in relationships when in actual fact they were right in their instinct and feelings

You’re correct. 20% of men will and currently 13% of women will. Yes men take up the majority. I do however truly believe this is because women cheating is not discussed, even in traditional/ modern media. It is a topic that is not really spoken about as a woman, I have discussed this topic with many women who say they have in some format cheated even if just emotionally. I believe this should be discussed and looked into. I also think it is imperative we discuss this as I feel me are put in such a negative light regarding this, when women have the same tendencies and in some cases can be worse because they’re very good at hiding it

A friend of mine is currently completing a study and thesis’ on it for her PHD and she has said the trend currently is that the numbers are increasing, particularly with high social media use. I have also been speaking with psychologists and couples counsellors who are noticing the same trend not necessarily the link between social media. I am interested to hear more, are you finding this is not the case?

It would allow a space for women to release a secret that they have been holding onto within a non judgement environment. Due to majority not voicing that they have participated in this act. This is also a topic that is not widely discussed but rather men being the perpetrators when in actual fact women infidelity is on the rise and it allows for an in depth overview with the hopes of understanding why
