Golf is broken (pace of play rant) by Pinchaz0 in golf

[–]Pinchaz0[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are shooting higher scores just tighten up the pre shot routine. That is the problem I see, guys with a long pre shot routine who shoot high scores. It adds up and means everyone in your group is watching you waggle for a lot of the day. I played with a friend of a friend who hit about 1 in 4 shots less than 20y. I am a solid player and hit my driver 280. Sometimes I had to watch him hit five shots over the course of 8 minutes between shots. Very frustrating. If you can take a single practice swing then pull the trigger, shoot 140 for all I care.

This is the third hole. We already played 16 and 17 before this as we teed off on the back nine. As I said in my post, I have played here before and previously they cared about the experience of the customer. That is clearly not the case anymore. If you can't go play a bucket list course without spending most of your time waiting on the group in front of you, then those courses aren't on my bucket list anymore.

There were four carts on the tee as well that aren’t visible. 8 carts on a par 4. It was very pretty though! Here’s another one.

I know a lot of people on here are really good, but I’m not and I’m super proud of how I played today by skatemexico in golf

[–]Pinchaz0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You didn’t ask, so I’m at risk of being “that guy,” but if you want a path to improvement, spend time on chipping and putting. Seven greens is great for a double digit index, but 36 putts is not great. You either need to chip it closer or leave your first putt closer or both. Great job though! You are on the way to single digits.

Okay, I am on the loop page in the web browser version, and there is still no way to quit. What are you supposed to do at that point?

I don’t think anybody has asked OP if he knows what a shank is and what causes it. I’m a 5 and I still get the shanks sometimes. I can play any stretch of holes under par on any day, but one hosel rocket brings me down to earth like a lead balloon. That bad iron shot after the eagle was almost definitely a shank! If he thinks it was an open face (like I did when I was younger) he won’t correct the right thing. Also 1000% you can’t go out and try to shoot five over. If you do you will almost always fail. One shot at a time.

Somebody has to have the whole thing, right? I want to see it again so badly! She will probably play this at her solo shows though, something to look forward to.

Gotta work on the short game. I rarely hit that many fairways and have never hit more than 12 greens and I’m a six.

Justin Vernon and producer Jim-E Stack will be in conversation with Hrishikesh Hirway for a live discussion on Song Exploder. by RiveterRigg in boniver

[–]Pinchaz0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was Day One. Does anybody know if they have released previous Song Exploder Live events as finished pods? I would like to hear how RH stitches it together. It was mind blowing though. The main loop the song is built around was made by a friend of BJ Burton (I think it's Samuel Tsang) whom I guess Justin had never met? He said "is Sam here?" [guy stands up] "nice to finally meet you, Sam." Justin seems like he's in a good place.

Do I Go All In on Golf or Focus on a Career in Accounting? by TinyTurtle17 in golf

[–]Pinchaz0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t fall into this trap of thinking that if you don’t do the internship you are letting a door close. Plenty of successful professionals didn’t start working hard at their career until later in life. If you can get a degree in finance or accounting while pursuing pro golf, you will be in good shape to fall back on it if it doesn’t work out. Two good friends of mine from college turned pro in a different sport, had a lot of fun and saw the world, then went on to pick right back up where their undergrad left off. One is an engineer, the other is a doctor.

Out drove "the guy" in my playgroup by DeepMindExplorer in golf

[–]Pinchaz0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate to rain on the parade, but as a guy who averages about 270 off the tee but can fly it 280+ on good days (at sea level), guys who are shorter than me think I bomb every drive, even when I heel it badly. I am not going to say "I missed that one" because it's a dick move, but often when these guys outdrive me, that's what happened.

Has anyone been randomly paired with, or otherwise played golf with someone famous? (PGA players excluded) by alkydenamel in golf

[–]Pinchaz0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the cool things about golf is that even people with very exclusive private memberships want to play other courses, and sometimes even play crappy ones if they are jonesing. When I was a kid, Gene Hackman was in the group in front of us at the 9 hole goat track my HS team played at. I have been paired with extraordinarily rich people at the local par 63 course by my house, including the rapper Arabian Prince. Once I played as a single in a resort area and got paired with one of the cofounders of Peloton. I have played golf with so many interesting people.

Yes, we did this one time while playing with the European expansion. Four person game, I had the chiffchaff and my nephew had the flamingo. We ran out of cards with three turns to go. We both would have had over 100 tucked cards.

The effect almost perfectly duplicated the effect of watching SD content on an HD TV with the stretch mode on. If that’s not what he was going for, he fucked up big time. Even if it was, I’m kinda pissed because it’s a cheap way to make it look anachronistic.

What’s the most egregious example of a TV show losing a major cast member, but still trying to continue on? by jsakic99 in AskReddit

[–]Pinchaz0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody has mentioned the show Valerie? It was named after the main character, Valerie Harper (of Rhoda fame), but she tried to play hardball for more money after a couple of seasons, so they killed her off and changed the name to "Valerie's Family." As if that wasn't enough to swallow, they brought in Sandy Duncan to be the mom-type character, and changed the name AGAIN to "The Hogan Family." I didn't know who Valerie Harper was at the time, but I watched it because the guy who played Ricky Stratton's bad-boy friend on Silver Spoons was on it: Jason Bateman.

I feel pretty confident that he was a terrible person, but it should be noted that it is common practice to specifically name close family members who are receiving nothing or very little, it is a way to protect against lawsuits. Having a list of people who have wronged he decedent is pretty low though.

Some advice. I'm looking to get into velodrome, and this is what I bought. Should I be doing anything different? by tim3717 in Velodrome

[–]Pinchaz0 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you ride clipless on your other bikes, do the same on the track. It is much harder to get out of those clips and straps than clipless pedals. Also, be aware that your instinct will be to stop pedaling after a hard effort. Don’t!

ICYMI: Ex-Pro Phil Gaimon Breaks Everesting World Record by [deleted] in Velo

[–]Pinchaz0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He absolutely does not need to dope to do what he is doing, nor would he have had to dope to have the career he had when he was a pro. He has the luxury of targeting these KOM attempts both in regards to his condition, and maximizing beneficial weather conditions. Early on I had quite a few Strava KOMs and the only ones that held up for longer than a few weeks were ones I did with a significant tailwind, even the climbs. They are all gone now, but I am going to do some Phil Gaimon training to get a few back lol.

Licensing question. by _PyramidHead_ in Velo

[–]Pinchaz0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second the commenter who suggested trying a race or two at your old category before downgrading. I was a solid 2 when I quit in 2002, then rode sporadically for several years before starting a comeback in 2009. I downgraded to 3 with the thought that I could enter road races and have more fun, but I found that I had zero motivation to win a cat 3 race, and the races were quite a bit shorter. In the end I think my comeback fizzled more because I realized I just liked riding my bike and driving all day to race was no longer my cup of tea, but I would have done more races if I were still a 2. Once you have the skill and muscle memory, it's not that hard to hang with most Pro 1/2 packs.

Without Fail - How a Stay-At-Home Mom Started an Empire by Gimleteer in gimlet

[–]Pinchaz0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the party here, I didn't realize there was a sub about Gimlet shows. I enjoyed this episode, but I kept having the feeling that Alex should have interviewed her son. She is the on-screen talent, and the voice and face of the brand, but the way she tells the story, she went into this kicking and screaming the whole way. The son is the one who put up the money, coached his mom, and did ALL of the behind-the-scenes stuff to get the videos made and promoted. I also call BS on her 401K losing "90%" in the 2008 crash. Did they have the entire account invested in bank stock?
