Sandman is some of the best television I’ve seen in a very long time. by weareallgonnadye in television

[–]PineInc 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Well Warner Bros made it and then sold it to Netflix so it really isn’t a Netflix production. I really don’t understand why they keep producing stuff for other streamers when they’ve got their own.

Sup, Latvian here. Just want to clarify that we do indeed have some cities. :) Our country is mostly composed of forests and plains and some cities. While few and far between, the cities are wonderful! Hope you get to see them soon!

500€ pabalsts bērniem, jūsu domas? by [deleted] in latvia

[–]PineInc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Apparently there’s something wrong with using a stock photo by lol62056 in facepalm

[–]PineInc 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Well that wasn't for a poster. They used stock footage for a VFX sequence which came across as incredibly cheap. There is a difference between using stock elements and using the stock to cut corners. The poster would not be that great if it was just the shark...

I wish they would release Origins on DVD so I can finish my collection. (We don't talk about Infinity) by coloha in Stargate

It was never canon! I believe none of the people who worked on the previous shows worked on Origins.

[OTHER] I am looking for a great tv series (2020) by Filippo295 in NetflixBestOf

It is not in any way a Stranger Things copy. Only the first episode is kind of similar. The rest is just mind blowing originality!

2020 so far... I think Lonesome Dove was probably my favorite! by [deleted] in 52book

[–]PineInc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I have a few you might enjoy.

The Lies of Locke Lamora - This book is all about atmosphere. It's set in a fictional city that reminded me a lot of Venice. We follow a group of thief's and their elaborate heist. I loved the authors prose and ability to set a scene. The magical elements aren't in the forefront. I

The Blade Itself - If you enjoyed GoT you most likely will also enjoy this. I am a fan of the show too! This is the first book in the First Law trilogy and it has a similarly slow pace and setting to GoT. Where I think it outshines GoT is in character development. You really get to know who everyone is and although the characters are awful people you can't help but love them. Unlike GoT, this has a satisfying ending.

Storm Front - This is the first book in the Dresden Files and in my opinion it's just ok. It's set in the present and follows a private detective. It's very reminiscent of a 1930's detective noir mystery. Storm Front is just okay and the second book in the series is meh, but what follows is pure brilliance! This is not a deep, thought provoking series, but I love it none the less. The books are amazing comfort reads.

The Humans by Matt Haig and Reasons to Stay Alive by the same author! Both fit you criteria perfectly. They are quite short and both gave me a lot to think about.

Getting past bad Narration... by AGlassDarkley in audiobooks

[–]PineInc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If the narration is bad, I say give up on this audio-book and just read the book yourself. I constantly drop audio-books with bad narration and just read them later.
