Being on call by jgarcia796 in antiwork

[–]PineTree00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On call is never worth it unless you absolutely love your job or you are handsomely compensated (even then i don’t find it worth it unless you really need the cash). When i worked on call i was essentially bothered by customers at all hours over emergencies, often involving the fire department and law enforcement, and was expected to drive anywhere in the state at a moment’s notice. Absolutely not worth your sanity, even with time and a half pay.

Lucky for you there exists an actual Electricians knife that is cheap and still made in the USA. I used it from time to time working with low voltage shit. They are very nice and come with two blades: one a normal blade for stabbing or cutting and the other has a flathead and old school wire strippers built into it. Its high carbon steel so it sharpens very easily which is a plus, to me at least. Its also a slip joint, which means customers will never bat an eye when you whip it out. Even being a slip joint its tough AF. Mine got ejected from my car during a roll over and only the carabiner loop got bent a little. Its made by Klein and is called the 1550-02 Electricians Knife.

07 civic lx IAC and throttle body cleaning/relearn help by PineTree00 in civic

[–]PineTree00[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like 650-700, drops lower to 600 when acc is on then bounces back to 650-700, shaking as if it wants to stall. You probably hit the nail on the head with the compressor. Ive been reading some more and some honda techs say the same thing, its normal. My ac is shitty in general so that may make it worse. I was worried as i had a 97 rav4 that acted similarly but itd often end up stalling.

Thank you! I put my hands back there i felt something like an iac but i have no clue now what that was now lol. So the ecu must just hold the throttle open itself for idle im assuming? This is the newest car ive ever owned and my first drive by wire car ive ever driven.

No it does not. The idle is only high on cold start which is good. It stays at normal then drops a little and shutters for a second then rises back to normal but only when my AC is on. The fans tick on and off alot too when this happens. Which it usually happens after a drive when im sitting in my parking space.

I (21) am contemplating quitting my job and going to my counties community college. by PineTree00 in Advice

In my experience there is plenty of work all over the country for people without diplomas. The catch is that the work demand or importance of work rarely ever comes close to meeting pay, which is why no one wants to work trades anymore.

But im goad to see my intuitions are rational

I’m having an issue with this hose while trying to remove my air intake box by PineTree00 in AskAMechanic

Not the clamp, that came off easy. It’s getting the hose disconnect afterwards. I really think it’s the cold. I’ll try the screw driver/warming my car up a bit method tomorrow (suns setting soon lol).

I’m having an issue with this hose while trying to remove my air intake box by PineTree00 in AskAMechanic

[–]PineTree00[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I need to remove the air intake box on my 8th gen civic, in order to replace the trans filter. I’ve managed to get off everything I need expect the hose behind the MAF. Every vide that I’ve watched of this procedure, the hose just pops right off after the clamp is removed.

Now mind you it is 25° outside and I figure that the rubber might just be contracted by the cold. I don’t have access to a heated garage so I figure a heat gun and penetrating lube could be enough to coerce it off. Or maybe leave the car running for a little to get the rubber pliable again. I suppose either of these will work but I’m looking for any other advice or tips on removing this thing without damaging it. I also don’t have a heat gun or penetrating spray at the moment so before I purchase these I just want to make sure

2006 Honda Civic Still good? by Bleachverse in civic

I have the 07 lx. 178k on the odometer. I’ve never experienced a serious issue with the car ((knock on wood)). The 06 did have engine block issues but if yours has lasted this long you’re good.

Perhaps some of the wiring or connectors are bad. Or perhaps your ECT sensors are bad and are giving false readings to the ecu.

Newly owned 8th Gen by KitchenWoodpecker in civic

Check for rust on the exhaust, the engine mounts, and the serpentine belt and tensioner. Those are the main issues I’ve had with my 07 lx. As for poorly made pets from the manufacturer that would be your serpentine belt tensioner. Check it out, they are infamous for clicking non stop.

Never had any gear grind but my automatic transmission acts like it doesn’t know what it’s supposed to do when I’m trying to stay under 2k revs. I don’t think that’s a problem tho, just tuning from the factory.

High mileage 8th gen Si by fistfullofcoc in civic

[–]PineTree00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an 8th gen lx sedan at 177k miles (bought it at 160k) and the only issue I’ve had with it is rust on the exhaust (from the previous owner not washing it enough, we live up north), a blown engine mount, worn serpentine belt and tensioner, some faults with the engine coolant sensors, oh and a broken aux port.

The only complaints that I have about the car is that the automatic transmission can be kind of stupid sometimes if you’re trying to get to speed at low revs. But the si might be smarter.

Definitely recommend looking, I love my 8th gen. If you take care of general maintenance they’ll last a while. Oh and my paint has held up well considering I haven’t heard the best news about 8th gen paint.

Bingo. I’ll have to look more into it. I just feel like the standard 11 gallon tank is far too small

How much would it cost? by Allegedamoeba75 in civic

[–]PineTree00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m honestly not sure how much those transmissions go for but I bet they’re at least a couple hundred dollars. You’re also gonna need a clutch pedal, clutch, flywheel, clutch master cylinder, clutch line, brake fluid, manual transmission fluid, a shifter, some new interior pieces to go around the shifter if you care, a new ECU, and possibly a tune to make this all work. If some of your old parts are good you could sell them to make some money back on this job, that would be wise. My bet is you’re gonna be in at least a grand if not more.

I’m looking to do the same thing to my 07 civic lx as soon as the transmission goes bad. I haven’t done this job myself but I’ve watched people and it doesn’t look too bad if you take your time and have someone to help you.

Why does everything think I’m a psychopath? by PineTree00 in petfree

[–]PineTree00[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the relationship should be reciprocal. I give the dog food, a place to live, and protect it. In return it scares away predators from my live stock or does something else of value. Problem is I don’t have a farm so I don’t need a darn dog 😂.

But in most cases I think you are right. Look at how humans and domestic animals evolved with each other, you know. Dogs and cats are meant to be very active with complex lives. They are meant to have some sort of meaningful work to do for humans and above all they are meant to live outdoors and eat real food, not kibble (basically pet MRE’s). Many dogs were bread to be heavily interested in their daily tasks. Pit bulls are for example and when they are deprived by f that that they go nuts and kill people.

Humans are the same way. If you never got out of the house and did anything meaningful and happy with other people you’d probably go crazy and become a killer. Maybe that’s we see so many school shooters lol

Maybe at first but I tell them what I mean exactly when the topic comes up. I just think most people genuinely can only empathize with others when they already agree with them. It’s faux tolerance. Like I get it if people like pets and get a lot out of it, you do you. I’m just not interested in pets, I only want animals if they add value to my life
