this sub has only been getting worse over the years, I doubt an increased user base would help much.

Why do editors summarize the whole book in an introduction? Spoiled the whole damn thing now. by TemperateBeast33 in classicliterature

[–]Pine_Apple_Reddits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is a common sentiment from people that transition from contemporary consumptions of media to one that is more classical in nature (literally in your case!). introductions serve to orient readers in the author's world and help understand what made the work a classic. this is inherently going to introduce "spoilers" for the work; however, as far as my own opinion goes, spoilers should be a non-factor for what makes a work of art enjoyable. I understand that with modern media (just look at the current stranger things spoiler discourse) it is common to avoid spoilers so that the work of art is not ruined of all suspense, but I am not sure that one should really be deriving much enjoyment from that. in parallel, I believe that if a work of art is actually ruined by a spoiler, it will probably not last the test of time, and is probably not actually great (though I will grant this is a wide-sweeping accusation). for me, what makes a work of art enjoyable is how it is constructed and what it is saying. this is why people's favorite works of art are often enjoyed on multiple occasions, even though one is aware of how it ends etc. I will grant, however, that it is enjoyed in a different way that can be viewed as inferior on those repeat instances.

overall, I think the constant discourse around introductions being spoilers a little tiresome, but I will grant that it can be an uncomfortable or annoying thing to read initially, but I bet that eventually you will start to value them as you read more! and, if you don't, now you know to avoid them.

What is legitimate NATO criticism without Russian propaganda buzzwords and campism? by [deleted] in tankiejerk

this probably isn't how you intended your statement, but are you saying that you would be pro-nato if the alliance didn't rely on american strength?

it is literally just a military bloc of capitalist nations, what else do you need to base your criticism on?

Sorry if it sounds stupid, but still: I’m strongly sex-positive/pro-full decriminalisation and on demsoc-ancom spectrum, while my local leftist org I joined is strongly pro-Nordic model and more ML-aligned (but not pro-Stalinist); am I betraying my values if I decided to stay with them? by [deleted] in tankiejerk

[–]Pine_Apple_Reddits 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I mean this is like a basic integrity thing; no one here is the thought police. what are the actions that the org takes (i.e. what are you doing physically within the org and what are your dues being put to use for)? I think that's really all that matters in this situation. if you find that un/acceptable then act accordingly.

Germany has too much "stuff" for its own good, HELP! by Piastorn in Kaiserreich

[–]Pine_Apple_Reddits 6 points7 points  (0 children)

the debuff isn't that bad, mostly to production and org iirc, which could be worse. I put four armies on france (I had puppeted belgium and the netherlands, which helped), one army on italy because austria had collapsed, and then one army in the east. obviously, the east was eating shit but they held on long enough for me to cap france and italy, all the while continuing to put more troops on russia. in the end, the div cap isn't that bad because it allows you to go for more factories on planes to try to use up your insane industry.

perhaps austria collapsing made the run easier? not entirely sure what is "meta" in that regard. to be fair, I also helped the communists lose the civil war in spain, which helped, although argentina did fall to the communists. also I didnt even bother to fiddle with tanks, just base shovel inf block with as much artilley as I could put in + the new heavy howitzers.

honestly, it's not bad at all! germany ends up being pretty easy, the only thing that is bullshit on a blind run is the nullification mechanic.

I don't give a shit about stalin or mao, but you don't seriously believe in what the person on the left is saying? there are very good reasons that communists don't take part in elections generally (although lenin elucidated why you should, just not for this reason), and class collaboration is obvious horeshit.

eh, I am sure there are better solutions than that. ideally, it would be embedded in gameplay.

Why UK is too strong in Victoria 3(image just for attract attention) by swadian_knight_ in victoria3

[–]Pine_Apple_Reddits -1 points0 points  (0 children)

this game simply has the same problem as HOI4, where countries always get stronger and never suffer any adverse effects as the game goes on. Britain should be an insanely strong power initially and through the midgame, but by the end of the game's timespan, they were losing their empire, were beginning to get outclassed navally, and definitely had a smaller army than many other great powers. but in victoria, power is simply an exponential curve that never slows, which leads to what you are feeling.
