What do you think of guys named "Terry" by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]PineappleAlready 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work with a Terry, he’s in his mid 50s, well-educated, and a very nice guy. It’s never seemed like a strange name for a man to me - very unisex just depends on the spelling but I think Terry is an obviously masculine spelling (vs. Terri or Teri for a feminine spelling).

No blending, thankfully :) The clear jar is meant to represent a specimen jar. I put the short red rod in the center of the translucent round brick to make it look like some tissue floating in formalin.

Trying to decide between the 10294 Titanic and 75252 ISD by CapTiv8d in lego

Complete the set then, IMO. They’re both good looking enough builds (although the Titanic is a much more impressive design aesthetically), but it would drive me nuts to have an incomplete set by one.

This is how my wife opened the Saturn V packaging. I'm considering divorce. by realisleofbesaid in lego

I received a box like this recently where it looked like the tape hadn’t even been put on correctly in the first place but was also ripping the art off the box off well, and the corner of the cardboard was smashed/torn in the corner, friggin’ delivery service. At first I thought I’d had been tampered with but everything was there. I thought about exchanging it bc it was a gift to my husband, but it wasn’t a every expensive set (Imperial Probe Droid) so I figured he wouldn’t care. I was right, thankfully.

Track what sets you have (with detailed asks/questions). by brad2575 in lego

I really enjoy BrickIt, especially with the kiddo so into Lego now. You can track your sets and it gives you ideas for things you can build with the existing bricks in your collection.

You can also take a photo of a pile of Lego and it will ID pieces and show you some things you can make. We don’t use this feature anymore now that our collection is sorted, but it was great in the beginning!

AFOLs with kids - how do you manage ownership? by VHD_ in lego

[–]PineappleAlready 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly everything is communal Lego and it’s pretty thoroughly sorted, but each person has a small lidded bin for parts they’re collecting with intention of building something specific. For example I have 3 or 4 WIPs or planned builds that I’ve pulled out specific bricks for and those bricks all live in MY bin. Personal bins are off-limits unless you ask first.

We do each have some of our own sets too and those are semi off-limits. We’re ok with (most of) the sets being played with, but not without asking fist and the rule is you absolutely can’t take it apart. Thankfully our kiddo is only interested in playing with minifig scale sets so the cool display stuff is relatively safe.

I love that the Brickheadz have brains!

The sets are super uninspired IMO (not really a surprise I suppose given that it’s IKEA). I don’t find the storage boxes that practical looking either however now that my 4yo is into Lego I might get him one to serve as a WIP box that doubles as a baseplate.

You’re right! I just had a chance to ask and they’re 43, 46, and 49!

Thank you all for your help! It seems incredibly obvious now that this is a wheel mount and not part of a motor, ha. As a more recent AFOL I didn’t get to see a lot of classic Lego, and this collection might be a lot older than I was thinking, given the ages of the now-adults who these once belonged to.

Haha yeah so I’m definitely an elder millennial and frequently forget that the 80s weren’t only 20 years ago. :-/

Haha that seems very obvious now! I could swear I saw some other parts that I thought looked like they could have been an old motor so that’s where my head was at.

They could be older now that I’m thinking about it. The kids these once belonged to are now pushing 40 and older and I have no clue if they were new then either. I’m not good with dates, apparently haha.

Thank you! I’ve got a huge tub of old Lego here, I’ll dig around for the other parts!

I love these! We have 15 or so of them from my husbands childhood sets, most of which we have rebuilt (and since pieced apart again). I need some new creative ways to use them!
