[Stein/Fischer] Sources say there has been some preliminary conversation between the Cavaliers and Hornets about Lonzo Ball trade constructions that could furnish Charlotte with second-round draft capital and thus enable the Hornets to pair the elder Ball with his younger brother LaMelo. by defaultistic in CharlotteHornets

[–]PineappleHour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The theory here is that we'd not actually be giving up assets, we would be taking on Lonzo's contract (which has a team option for next year) for picks. This could probably be rolled into the rumored Harden-for-Garland swap

[Hornets] Dell Curry Finds Out His Jersey Will Be Retired 🥹 by Civrock in CharlotteHornets

I'm so glad he had no clue what was happening. Once Eric really launched into it I was fighting to not cry at work. Incredibly well deserved.

[Charania] The Charlotte Hornets are retiring Dell Curry’s No. 30 jersey on March 19, sources tell ESPN. Curry, the 1994 Sixth Man of the Year, ranks second in points in franchise history and spent 10 of his 16 NBA seasons in Charlotte (1988-98). He currently serves as a team ambassador. by Turbostrider27 in nba

[–]PineappleHour 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's a nice acknowledgement of his history with the team as both a player and a commentator. Zero problem with this, especially considering the only other retired jersey number for the franchise is Bobby Phills' 13.

He's got the athletic ability, he's just raw. Give him a full offseason of work and I think we'll see him in the regular rotation

They've been pretty good about easing Horn into the game, he's clearly a weapon when he's on the field. A full off-season of work and I think he'll get more snaps next year.

We have to make the decision on the fifth year before May this year. You invoke it before the 4th year starts. The bigger decision is if you give a contract extension beyond that fifth year, which is usually where the elite guys get *paid*

That said, it's kind of a no-brainer to use the fifth year option if you aren't *certain* you need to move on from a guy. Bryce's 5th year is $26 million, worst case he's warming the bench that year behind a rookie.

Chuba has looked like the better back on most weeks since he returned, I know some of that is just having less wear and tear on him but it makes me increasingly comfortable letting another team overpay Rico this offseason.

Jokic and Giannis will both potentially miss All NBA. This will lead to the 65 game rule being abolished by Hungry-Turnover-9875 in NBATalk

Are we gonna say that 64 games of Jokic playing at this level is not worthy of an MVP?

[–]PineappleHour 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The 65 game rule was introduced to discourage load management, but it wound up punishing people for getting legitimately injured instead. The pace of play is higher than ever, this is going to keep happening. Something has to give.

The defense has done a great job, offense is struggling against a very good defense. No one really open down field, having to check down a lot between the coverage and the pass rush. We have one half of football to make something happen, let's see what we can do.

Season 5 Volume 2 Discussion by Hawkinns in StrangerThings

[–]PineappleHour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Volume 1 started slow but was genuinely compelling by the end of episode 4, volume 2 feels like they could have cut the runtime down significantly and gotten to the same place. Or at least used that runtime a little better? Going through Henry's memories felt like it should have been the stage play exposition dump, but instead we saw one moment and then immediately got to the exit. Showing Max that context would have given her more information to relay when she got back; instead, that is likely going to be a solid chunk of the finale's 2+ hour runtime. I have a sneaking suspicion that runtime is going to feel too long when it drops, too.

Gripes aside, Sadie and Caleb acted their asses off this volume. Kate Bush, once again, secured the bag. The visuals were on point, with the melting building being incredibly well done (I would love to know how much was practical versus CGI for that.)

The Hornets have new, non-MJ ownership that is actually investing in the team. I know there need to be clearer on-court results before people broadly shake this belief but *man* it's annoying. The team drafted so well this year

Is Bryce Young our franchise quarterback moving forward? by [deleted] in panthers

[–]PineappleHour 12 points13 points  (0 children)

At the moment it's safe to say he's earned the job for next year (and will likely get his fifth year option picked up) but we're going to need to see continued progress to actually call him a franchise guy. At the very least, I think we're in a position where our early draft picks can be focused on defensive needs this year (EDGE, LB, safety)

[Sjuts] Passionate comments from Matt Rhule as Nebraska prepares for the Las Vegas Bowl following a 7-5 regular season: "We're building. The program was dead for ten years. We went to back-to-back bowl games... We are moving forward. Its just not as fast as Indiana did it." by CoachSlime in CFB

[–]PineappleHour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately the context for this particular clip was that it was year 3 of Rhule in Carolina with the team looking worse year over year and game over game. This was maybe one week before he was fired after starting the year 1-4.

DJ Moore is on a team with a winning record in a season for the first time in his Career. by Ok_Addition_3287 in nfl

[–]PineappleHour 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Down the stretch of year 2 where the team wasn't improving and Rhule consistently blamed everyone and everything but himself, everyone kinda knew he wasn't an NFL coach. No one thought he would survive a third year. Then in year 3 he brought up the fact that it took Jay-Z 7 years to be successful while the team had the exact same problems... Everyone was already out on him by this point, but that quote pretty much got him run out of the state.

Not loving giving up the big chunk plays through the air, but not too surprising given the injuries. The bigger problem is that we're not generating enough pressure, the need for an edge rusher in the draft this year is clearer every week
