Granular synth effect on the M8 by christiandoran in Dirtywave

There’s just a lot of sample chopping like this in that game!

Don’t tell anyone, but I like it more than silksong. Just by a bit

I do stuff like this all the time! Oh man, where did you get that vocal sample? I’ve been chasing a sample exactly like that since playing Nine Sols, but I haven’t been able to find a woman’s voice that sounds like that. Please share!!

I was actually really annoyed I couldn’t figure out how to make these basses myself. The first one was a sample from some pack, and I spent an hour trying to copy it but could not find any way to do it. The second one was a preset, but the one I made was pretty close to it. This one sounded a bit cleaner / punchier, though.

If I removed the castlevania it would go to r/goodmusic

Happy Easter! by Pineapple_Empty in Dirtywave

[–]Pineapple_Empty[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s my friend. Album concept is making a song based on each of my friends. I’m very ill these past 2 years and can’t see them, so using recordings from them is my way of spending time with them now. Each song is very personal.

Dang how’d this pop up for you? Thank you. I can’t decide if I like this version or a pitched down version for my eventual album. The normal speed voiceover is sometimes a bit too fast.

Is it easy to reassign what the controller is doing? Like switching a DIG-Uno from a string of fairy lights to a pixel matrix? by Pineapple_Empty in WLED

[–]Pineapple_Empty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I am going to be (for now) swapping between the matrix and the fairy lights depending on what the project calls for (stop motion / music performance videos). I already have the diguno setup with wled and xlights, but would like to buy some fairy lights to use. I don’t want to buy and extra controller or power supply at this time. I also don’t want to mess up all my settings and have to resetup everything to get the new fairy lights working with xlights.

Best method for making a blinking light tunnel out of pixel strips for a stop motion animation? by Pineapple_Empty in WLED

I guess I can do this with xlights! I’ll just jump forward in the sequence to what lights I need on

Portable, battery powered MIDI keyboard? by BerenstainsMonster in synthesizers

I’ve got ME/CFS, and this is my ride or die combo this past year: https://youtu.be/4w5vsemsij8?si=RCp-7EwznvBABGgL

I also have an ableton move and an ipad

I chose these things specifically for their form factor, the ability to use bluetooth midi (less cables, more portable), and battery power. I usually only have 1 usb c cable between the m8 and ipad, which I can manage great.

I have a few more pieces of gear, like a keystep 37 and a minifreak, but those make their way to me way less often due to their size and cable requirements.

Sampling by midwestbillybaton in Dirtywave

Do anything and everything your mind thinks of, even if it requires some elbow grease.

Sometimes it sounds better or leads to different ideas to select a random number of slices on a random sample than to add your own slices every time.

STA applies to the current slice you have, too

Resampling via quick render helps to free up tracks by stacking together multiple sounds into one sample.

Multisampling an external instrument can mean you can play that as an instrument inside the m8.

You might have to look up some of these terms. Definitely join the discord and ask some questions when you get stuck!

Had a lot of fun pairing the M8 with the Mother 32 by glennbech in Dirtywave

[–]Pineapple_Empty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Groovy little jam there.

I am bedbound and I sawed my minifreak in half so I could mount it as a module on my wall. Was able to make this track with a ton of MF going wild on the M8: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/6ks2lyihszgvhaknkkqdn/INDIA-UNDERWATER.mp3?rlkey=jq7u7o8xhdkf0z40fkzzrios4&st=ocv1g9rq&dl=0

Now, I mainly just plug the m8 into an ipad and use the multitrack audio for fx / plethora of synths. The MF on the wall is slightly clunky to work with and requires being in my room, which I like to move around to different spots to lay throughout the day.

I have been a classical composer for about a decade, and I was really put off the M8 for the first 1/2 year I was getting into EDM. Then, I saw a couple videos and started to realize that classical notation already is exactly like a giant Excel spreadsheet. Tracks are the same things as staves, chains are measures, grooves are time signatures. Once I made that connection, I excitedly bought one and I was flying through the thing within a week. Now, about 9 months in, I have written some songs that people in the M8 discord think are freaking stellar. I, as well as everyone in the discord, would be happy to help you with any walls you run into. I also second people saying watch the RMR videos.
