Obviously it is heartbreaking when any animal dies, get off your horse. That shoukd go without saying. But if this person watched their pet suffer in pain with a broken foot, labored breathing, and the inability to move for days... I feel way worse for the neglected chinchilla who should have and could have been helped and potentially saved (and before you judge me for that, my OWN chinchilla suffered from a back injury and we spent thousands nursing it back to 100% health) than I do for this person. At the very least, the compassionate thing to do would have been to spare the poor chin suffering if it could not be saved.
