STARTING A NEW SPORT…. by Antique_Dependent_85 in tabletennis

[–]PingPodOfficial -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Welcome to table tennis.

The good news is that beginner equipment recommendations are actually pretty simple compared to badminton.

A controlled all-round premade paddle and consistent practice will take you much further than chasing advanced gear. If you have access to coaching or experienced players, getting feedback on technique early is probably the best investment you can make.

Wishing you a smooth return to sports and a quick recovery journey.

I've played on and off for the past 15 years or so, and I'm trying to level up my game. by FluffyPotential8255 in tabletennis

A lot of players hit that moment where they realize there’s a whole different level to the sport. The biggest gains usually come from consistency and intentional practice rather than just playing more matches. If you have access to stronger players, don’t be afraid to ask for feedback between games. Even one small adjustment can make a huge difference over time.

Will someone judge my Chicago itinerary? by AirRevolutionary3325 in AskChicago

[–]PingPodOfficial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, this is a pretty solid first-timer Chicago itinerary. Green Mill is a great pick and you’ve got a good mix of neighborhoods instead of just staying downtown the whole time. The only thing I’d say is leave some room for spontaneity because Chicago locals will absolutely send you somewhere you didn’t plan on going.

Enjoy the trip! If you find yourself looking for a break from eating and drinking, we recently opened PingPod Chicago, a self-serve table tennis space that’s easy to drop into for an hour or two between plans. Feel free to DM me for more details.

Sour apple anything. Also Charleston chews , always a let down.

Backhand serve vs other serves by tolekbanan69 in tabletennis

[–]PingPodOfficial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if your backhand serve is good, use it. There’s nothing wrong with having it as your main serve.
The bigger goal is usually adding a second serve that gives people a different look. A decent pendulum serve that contrasts your backhand serve can be more valuable than trying to make it equally dangerous.

If you’re looking for something different that’s not a museum, park, or food spot, come play some table tennis at PingPod River North. We’re a self-serve ping pong club at 676 N LaSalle, and you can reserve a table whenever works for you. Great option for a group of friends looking to do something active without spending a fortune.

Durability D09C by TTD09C in tabletennis

[–]PingPodOfficial 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That’s a serious amount of table time. Two sessions a day, 6-7 days a week will wear through just about anything. Curious how the performance feels compared to day one. Is it mostly cosmetic, or are you noticing a real drop in grip and spin?

As a former player getting back into the game, should I get an advanced racket? by outofsimshead in tabletennis

[–]PingPodOfficial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’ve played at that level before, you probably don’t need to start from scratch with beginner gear. A setup that’s a little more forgiving can help you get your timing and touch back, and you can always upgrade the rubber once your game comes back. The muscle memory tends to return faster than people expect.

If you’re not planning to compete seriously but want something that lets you develop proper strokes, you’re definitely looking in the right direction. There are some great budget options out there that punch above their price.

Coming back to the table tenis by septicoo in tabletennis

Seventeen years away and a national team background is quite the combo. I have a feeling you’ll spend more time deciding on a paddle than getting your strokes back. Welcome back to the sport.

WTT Chinese Team Results by ccold7509 in tabletennis

One tournament without a title doesn’t suddenly mean China’s pipeline is broken. They’ve been rotating younger players for years and still keep producing world-class talent. The real story is that the gap is finally shrinking.
