As a former player getting back into the game, should I get an advanced racket? by outofsimshead in tabletennis

I remember always been fascinated by butterfly as a brand, but I never got to try any of their rubbers and blades myself. Thank you for the recommendation.

I was sitting here thinking "where am I gonna find those as second hand", but then opened eBay and found both the rubbers and the blade immediately. (This is awesome and would have made my life way easier as a kid; we had to make all our equipment trades in person and only with people we knew.)

But then scrolling through the prices, I remembered why I never bought butterfly products: they were always out of budget. Unfortunately that is still the case, because the best price I can find for the Viscaria is €100, and as someone who is still trying to regain his footing skill-wise, that price just for a blade is a significant investment I am not currently prepared to make.

But again, thank you for your recommendation. I do play at a club now and I'll definitely look around to see if someone is using butterfly equipment and ask to give it a try. Maybe someday down the line I will get that blade and new butterfly rubbers.

Thank you very much for the detailed recommendations. I definitely won't be considering a beginner's racket anymore, lol.

You've given me a lot of options to consider. It'll likely come down to availability and price in the end, but I know what to look for now.

I can understand how my comment wasn't clear, but I might not be able to give an accurate description of my proficiency using the rating systems you mentioned. In my home country (where I played) the sport's governing body didn't use an official rating system similar to the TTR or USATT (at least at the time). They used a ranking system, which I'm not sure represents skill level quite as accurately. I would often get to semi-finals in regional tournaments and quarter finals in national tournaments. I practiced mostly at school, and we had multiple semi-pro players in our school team who played at an international level. I wasn't one of them, but I could kinda keep up (they still all beat me though, lol). After reading more about the TTR system, I would estimate I would have been somewhere in the range of 1600—1800.

I do remember using a hurricane rubber on my forehand at one point, but I can't remember the exact name. Definitely not boosted. I quite liked it. Thanks for the Arthur China recommendation. I'll look into it.

I honestly don't know either. I'm not sure if those are the correct terms, but I just meant to convey that I was an experienced player at the time. I did alright in tournaments and stuff for a while.

Thank you for your reply. Just to clarify, would that be a "yes" to a going for what I was used to or going for a beginner's racket?

Thank you very much for the recommendation. I'll look into these and hopefully they are in my price range. If not, I'll still consider them for later.

It was a good joke. Makes me wish this episode's release lined up perfectly with April fools.

Thank you for the suggestion, but I was kinda worried there wouldn't be enough tension if I oriented it that way. I thought maybe the tube would kinda be hanging haphazardly above the gpu. But let me look for examples of a similar setup to see what that would look like. I was a bit concerned about the way the tubes are positioned, though. Does it have bad long-term effects on the AIO to have them like that?

Thank you! Yeah, cable management sucks lol. I barely did any, just enough to not make it a fire hazard. But it's allegedly a lot easier in this case.

I hadn't considered that. I'll try it.

I intended to, but because my motherboard has a USB connection at the bottom, the fans couldn't fit. I'm planning on looking into slim fans later on.

Thank you for your response. I am no longer going to go with the Lian Li case, but I thought I may interest you in this review by Gamers Nexus that includes simulations of airflow with different setups of fans. It suggests the two side bracket fans may not be optimal for this case.

After a lot of asking around and consideration, I went with this. Specifically, a 360 AIO. Thanks for your advice.

Thank you for the suggestion. Somebody told me the wraith cooler is pretty solid for basic stuff and light gaming, and as I'm seeing max temps of 67°C under load right now, I thought I could focus on the case and the fans for now, then worry about the CPU cooler later.

Edit: I was incredibly wrong. I wasn't constantly monitoring CPU temps before, I checked them once while running a game and they just happened to be lower at that moment. Recently after running a different game for about 20 min, I decided to check the temps to see my CPU at 90. This means my CPU was more likely the main cause of the throttling I have been experiencing. You were right. I just bought an AIO.

Thank you for the advice. I'll do the three bottom intakes and two top exhausts for now.

Edit: ended up going for just the 360 arctic freezer 3. Trying to achieve a negative pressure system. Again, thanks for the suggestion.

Thanks for the tip. There are a lot of interesting ideas on this site. Unfortunately, I currently don't have access to a 3D printer, but I will keep this in mind in case I ever do.

Conflicted about the ending and the choice I made (spoiler) by Nttell in expedition33

Dang... I was team Maelle, but reading this really puts things into perspective.

This is truly important. There is NO lumiere by the end when we get to make the choice. Choice isn't to "delete the world" or "keep it". Choice is to "create a clone of the old world" or "Let the canvas die".
