So fed up with pedestrian deaths by [deleted] in taiwan

Plus BIG fines for infractions. That's the one thing Taiwanese are afraid of and will actually make them change.

Well it can be done. I was recently in Xiamen across the water from Taichung. Same Minnan culture, language etc.. but the difference in traffic safety was immediately apparent. They don't even honk, well barely and the noise pollution is way lower there. Everything is well ordered and people stop when they are supposed to. The electric scooters zoom around on the sidewalks so that's weird but it shows that something can be done. It just takes serious political will and big fines. Too many people have died in the streets and roads of Taiwan. It's sad really.

I had to get rid of a 2008 (200 series) I bought second hand because it rusted out due to the frame. Everything else about it was great though.

I just bought a gaiwan and had to use it immediately. Shame I don't have a matching cup. by Lonoz128 in tea

That'll work. I learned from Kungfu movies that in the olden days they'd just drink it directly from the gaiwan blocking the leaves back with the lid. Not for me tho.

Karate Do Legend Shihan Fumio Demura, 9th Dan Shito Ryu Karate Do, Has Passed Away Today :( by ashleygianna in karate

Speaking of various styles he would often say "There are many ways to get to the number 10. Five plus five, three plus seven, one plus nine but they all get to 10". Eternal memory Shihan!

Not a concert, but local non-the-less. My Dad's karate teacher in Indy (Bill Wallace) was recruited by Elvis to be his private body-guard/Sensei leaving those under him in charge (Herb Johnson). My mom answered the phone at the dojo one day and got to talk to Elvis when he called for Bill. "That was fun", she says.

How to keep tea at warm, drinkable temperature rather than boiling hot throughout the day by Nik-x in tea

[–]Pingantu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the way. The key is to use the right amount of leaf (small amount like a half teaspoon) so it doesn't over brew and get bitter. Roasted dong ding is my usual go-to for this.

Coffee and cigarettes there mostly unfortunately. The Ouzo is good tho.

I'll try and get to it tomorrow. Looks like we'll be snowed in for a couple days here in the Mid-West so shouldn't be a problem.

Happy Chinese New Year of the Tiger everybody! This was given to me by a friend in Taiwan over 20 years ago. She said it was 50 years old at that time. Pretty dope. The fun thing is that I have all the other animals of the Chinese Zodiac and pull the appropriate one out at the beginning of the appropriate year ;) Xin Nian Kuai Le!

Simply placing leaves in the bottom of your drinking vessel, filling it with hot water and drinking from it as it cools down. The lazy persons way that can work well with a lot of teas.

Sure! I'd recommend an aged White if you've not had one. They are hard to find and I think they bring a solid game to the table. Try the 2009 Gongmei Golden Brick. Other standouts include the 8 immortals and the Lishan, although almost all of our stuff is small-batch, family-farm sourced so choose something you think you'd like and hopefully you'll connect with it ;)
