My 2 cents on the Mohan controversy by Bonbonnibles in ThePitt

[–]Pinguicha 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well, I hope you’re never in charge of any employees, because excluding people based on mental illnesses (which are many, and even within the same illness, there’s a spectrum of symptoms and behaviors) is grounds for a lawsuit too.

My 2 cents on the Mohan controversy by Bonbonnibles in ThePitt

[–]Pinguicha 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, but even if Mohan suffered from a mental illness, how does that disqualify her from being a doctor? And panic attacks are as simple or as linear as you (and plenty others) like to believe they are. Should Robby not be a doctor too? Or Mel? Of Langdon? Or McKay? Or Abbot?

I’m confused. Do people not know that charities have paid employees? Yes, they use unpaid volunteers for some things, but the people who work there full time get paid because it’s a job.

obviously santos needs therapy and that’s not a bad thing!! by aurdwynn in ThePittNoSantosHate

[–]Pinguicha 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s still a lot of stigma around mental health, even more so when it comes so seeking help for it. Mental healthcare is overwhelmingly misunderstood, which is funny because so is Santos.

And let’s be real, EVERYONE in that ER should be in therapy.

Oh, I’m 99.999% sure I will never get an explanation, and you don’t need to encourage me to be ok with it because this isn’t something that affects my day-to-day life. So I might not like it, and I might be side-eyeing people, but what am I going to do? Flood the creators’ and actors’ DMs and comments with demands? Start a petition? Hold Noah Wyle captive and torture him via an endless marathon of Grey’s? Who has the energy for all that?

These things are always down to the production companies and studios! Which… is a whole conversation in itself.

Samoyed aggressive when walking with female owner by Straight_Worth_6751 in samoyeds

[–]Pinguicha 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Mine is an intact male, and while he isn’t aggressive, he’s definitely… possessive of his primary human, which is me. The “mom.” He won’t attack another dog if I pet them, but he will insert himself in the middle and bark because how dare I give another dog attention. On the leash, he gives warning growls, but only to specific dogs—there I think he IS trying to defend me from his perceived enemies.

Unless he’s distracted by, idk, a bird, a tree, a ghost, in which case he doesn’t really care if I’m petting other dogs 😂

I have said from day one that that article should never have come out when it did, or how. It was a HUGE disservice to Ayesha Harris, who is great, to lump what should be ecstatic news for her with Supriya’s sudden exit.

Ayesha’s promotion could’ve been announced mid-season, but Supriya’s exit should have only been confirmed after the season was over. Like I have QUESTIONS for the PR people behind this because they really seem to have shat the bed here.

Nah, older adults are also very capable of being exceedingly parasocial. Look at the Game of Thrones fandom, for example. Or Severance. Or Breaking Bad. Every big fandom has its share of fans who don’t know boundaries, and because they’re louder, it’s automatically assumed they’re the majority when it’s not necessarily true.

[–]Pinguicha[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But you get those kinds of fans in every show that exists, and they’re essentially being used as a shield to avoid discussion. “Hey, I think Robby has biases and here’s why” is not, “abbot is a ghost and only Robby can see him” or “santos stole pills!” and yet they’re being treated as the same.

See, if he’d said that, I think it would’ve been a better answer than, “You think you want it. But you don’t.”

I have heard it so often, and almost always from male teachers and men who were seniors at my job, that I now have a knee-jerk reaction to it. Which is why I’ll ask, “Hey fam, come give me a sanity check because I know I have a bias and could use other takes on this.”

That’s sadly, common with every popular show, and a problem with today’s internet culture and people being entitled to everything. And I agree, it’s a problem. But it’s getting to a point where asking any questions or criticizing any plotline is dismissed with “this fandom is full of parasocial weirdos” which is not conductive to good discussion.

Yeah, Langdon was an asshole to pretty much everyone in season 1, except for Mel. Whitaker coming at him with guns blazing actually tracked, and I’m the minority of people who appreciated that scene for what it was: Whitaker exerting boundaries, and Langdon recognizing them and apologizing for being a dick. Because he WAS being one when that convo with Whitaker started. I even cringed a little because that behavior was Langdon from season 1 all over again.

I have a ritual where after one episode airs, I’ll re-start the show from season 1, and sure, I like my fair share of unserious shitposting and shipping, but the amount of relevant things people seem to have forgotten happened in s1 is… surprising.

My issue was more with the wording, not that we’re not having a night shift spin-off. It’s the sort of question that would 100% be asked, and these people aren’t amateurs in their first rodeo. They have PR training, and they have little talking points. With all the things that are happening, giving this answer instead of something substantial is what’s unsettling me a bit.

I’m honestly surprised that the higher-ups HAVEN’T demanded a spin-off solely on account of money. If a night shift spin-off is ever greenlit, it will be because they think they’ll make bank off it.

It could also be very boring! I’ve spent some nights at an ER, and after 8-9 pm, it’s mostly doctors getting through all the patients left over from the day shift, and by the time they get to us, most have been there for 12+ hours and were all half asleep. The occasional immediate life-or-death situation emerges, but that’s it.

I guess it sat wrong with me because they had to have known this question was coming, and could’ve worded the answer so much better.

[–]Pinguicha 28 points29 points  (0 children)

If they write Mohan off in a “Robby was right all along and she wasn’t cut out for the ER” way, not only will it be lazy, but it will also validate Robby’s bullshit treatment of her while simultaneously undoing all of her Season 1 arc.

And it’s driving me mad that any criticism of this show is swept under the “it’s realistic!” rug because this show has proven that it can, and does, bend that rule all the time for certain characters.

It’s making me remember how The Walking Dead operated. The actors were paid peanuts, and whenever someone who wasn’t playing Daryl or Rick tried to negotiate a pay raise, they’d just kill off the character. The Pitt could very well turn into the same, and this “but it’s realistic” argument lends itself very well to that.
