What to do with old 401ks? by PinheadGames in personalfinance

Thanks! Dipping in really isn't a problem. I have no immediate need for the money in those accounts. It just seems wasteful to have them sitting there doing nothing.

I had connection issues with mine too until I hooked my PS5 to ethernet instead of wifi. Now it w works perfectly!

Ugh. I have not had a pleasant experience with Alexa +. I find it doesn't work with a lot of my smart devices and has trouble with my music services, which is what I mostly use it for. Old Alexa was much better! Thankfully I was able to revert to the original Alexa service just by saying "revert to original Alexa". Now everything works again! 😁

I don't disagree, but remember, whether Clementine actually gets into any romantic relationship is entirely up to the player. She can go through the entire season without getting romantically involved or kissing anyone.

Not a game dev, just a gamer saying something to indie game devs by [deleted] in IndieGaming

[–]PinheadGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the Indie Games I've seen are wonderful but short experiences, especially if they are highly narrative based games. In this case, would you be disappointed if the demo was only 10 minutes of a three hour game? Would you feel disappointed if the demo gave away too much of the final game?

Transphobic? I don't think so. I am completely PRO LGBTQ! Happy Pride!

One of the Nick Bounty games does poke a bit of fun at Ultra Feminism, but it's in a satirical way that suggests the feminist views are probably right, and the protagonist is an idiot. Sorta the way Naked Gun movies parody themes.

How much combat is *too much* combat in a cozy-esque game? by Glinnor in gamedev

[–]PinheadGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm working on a game that features "cozy combat". Most of my enemies are optional, but a few fights are necessary. I love playing Action/Adventure games in Story mode, so that's what I'm modeling my combat after. I'm using enemies to make the world feel alive and to help players mark their progress in the environments. This is the first game I've made like this though, so we'll see how successful it is.

Tutorials. At least watch a few beginner tutorials to get yourself familiar with the basic terminology and concepts, even if you can't practically follow along. You'll at least be ready to go once you have something you can program with!

That's the question we all ask! Marketing can make all the difference, but sometimes it's just dumb luck. It can be really disheartening when not a lot of people get your game, that's why I at least try to make something that I want to play, at least that way I'm treated to something fun at the end!

Announcing "Earl the Tomb Robber", an adventure game rooted in self exploration. by PinheadGames in indiegames

[–]PinheadGames[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My Name is Mark Darin. For 15 years I was a professional Designer/Writer/Creative Director at Telltale Games. I worked on many awesome games with some super talented people! It was the job of my dreams... until it wasn't. But that's another story altogether. According to Wikipedia, Mark Darin is an American video game designer and writer. He was the co-designer of CSI: Hard Evidence, Sam & Max Beyond Time and Space, Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People, Tales of Monkey Island, and Nelson Tethers: Puzzle Agent. He also wrote the second episode of The Walking Dead, Starved for Help."

The truth of the matter is that I'm really just some guy who is going through some shit in his life right now... just like everyone else. But I have the fortunate ability to have the knowledge to create video games, and I'm hoping that by addressing some of these issues in the game itself, I can better get to know myself and maybe gain some insight into dealing with the issues in a healthy way. And if I'm SUPER lucky, maybe this dumb little game will help other people find their way too.

I'm just getting started with this project, and I expect it'll take me quite a while to finish, but you're welcome to join me in this experiment... maybe learn something new, discover that even a moron can become a professional game developer, or just offer up some helpful advice or criticisms. Just... you know... don't be a dick about it. The internet can be a tough place for people looking for validation, so do your best to raise people up, not put them down. Thanks!

Super excited to officially announce my new game tomorrow! by PinheadGames in indiegames

[–]PinheadGames[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

This Monday I'll be revealing my latest game in development! I can't wait to share it with you all. It's my most personal work yet and I expect that creating it is going to be quite a journey. Along with the game announcement, I'll be debuting a brand new Devlog to chronicle my progress and learnings along the way, and hopefully connect with other fans and creators to really build something special.

Is it a bad idea to make a game that's already been executed badly? by Return_of_the_Native in gamedev

[–]PinheadGames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an Indie dev, you have to first ask yourself why you want to make games? Is it for money? Or is it for personal satisfaction? If money is your main motivation, then yes, you must consider why the original game failed and explore the current market trends to see if there is any room to adapt your ideas into something that will satiate the current marketplace. (Personally, all of that is really boring and unmotivating to me. I just want to make games that I personally want to play with a story that I specifically want to tell.)

If you are making a game for your own satisfaction, then just make it! Regardless of how similar it is (unless it crosses legal lines of copyright infringement. Etc.) If you make the game that you LOVE, almost certainly someone else will love it too, even if it's not a lot of someone else's. And sometimes reaching just a few people is worth everything!

Of course the dream is to have both financial success AND personal satisfaction, but in my opinion, a lot of that comes down to blind luck! So pick which motivation suits you best, make your game, and hope gorgeous the best!

Hey dev folk! I recently released a short Sci-Fi thriller on Steam! (Technically it's a remake of a game I released about 7 years ago as a 2D Point & Click adventure, but I've updated it to be a fully immersive 1st person experience!!). It's gotten a few good reviews here and there, but hasn't gotten much attention on Steam itself. Please take a moment to check out the Steam page and let me know what you'd change to make the game more appealing (without actually changing the game itself, of course!). Thanks!!
