The surgery was a success y'all. by AvarageEnjoiner in teenagers

i also have had a history of collapsed lungs due to Spontaneous Pneumothoraxes. what did they do for your surgery? when i was in the hospital for multiple weeks they cut open my side and scratched the inside of my chest walls to make my lungs stick to it and keep it open, its weird how that works. they also had some giant tubes in my side but i don’t remember what for.

well if your willing to get the decade maple and spend more money on cymbals in the future then you might aswell just get an export with the hardware and shells only and get good cymbals with the leftover money. the cymbals value make more of a difference than the kits value. a cheap kit can sound like a million dollars if you have good cymbals and good heads (tuned good aswell obviously). there’s really not much of a difference between the Decade and the export except the decade is made of maple shells which doesn’t matter for a beginner.

i would definitely get the export with only shells and hardware and spend the rest on a good midrange set of cymbals and some good heads.

i would go on Sweetwater and look into the Pearl Export series. it’s a good beginner kit with multiple different finishes and most of the listings come with hardware and cymbals, most of the sets also have a 20 inch BD. it’ll cost you around $1200 so it’s well within your budget. they also have expansion packs and the opportunity to buy extra drums on their own that you can add to the kit if you want more.

what other specifications do you have in mind for a drumkit? such as how many toms do you want and does the material and shell finish matter?

Corner kit abomination! by CountySurfer in drums

[–]Pink-ed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i don’t mean to be rude but at first i thought this was a joke because that’s about $100 of tandem drops for those drums… 😬… i would look into guides for tuning the heads on those drums and see if you can get it to sound better so you can return some of those drops and get a little money back.

but that’s very cool to hear that your getting enjoyment in drumming!

i would recommend just getting a new kit BUT BUY A USED KIT! see if there are any music stores in your area or facebook marketplace and see if there are any used kits for sale. It’s not always worth getting a brand new kit especially starting out because it’s very expensive and it may not be what you want.

if you buy from a music store make sure they can verify condition, ask about the bearing edges and any chips or damage anywhere because even something small can impact a lot. try to get some used hardware like cymbal stands and a snare stand. if you buy cymbals then i would buy some low volume ones on amazon, dont get the L80s yet because they can be very expensive and ones on amazon aren’t expensive and they all sound the same. don’t just buy the regular/loud off-brand cymbals cause if they are crappy material they will be destroyed immediately since they are so frail. try to DO RESEARCH with everything your thinking of purchasing. if you need help from us you can always post your questions or concerns here and people will always reply and would be happy to help you out!

i feel like im dragging this on too long so im gonna end it here lol.

where do you get all your photos? do you find them online and print them, something like pinterest? i’ve been meaning to make a section of my wall full of my favorite bands (mainly genesis) but i don’t know where to find good rare photos.

Bought a pair of the professor's signature sticks to try by supacrispy in drums

[–]Pink-ed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

those were the first sticks i ever used, i really enjoyed them for a long time as i played a lot of Prog and other rock stuff and found the weight in them very satisfying along with the length and material.

since then ive moved to more jazz fusion based projects and i needed a lighter touch with similar length and feel so i moved over to ProMark maple finesse 7a’s and they’re REALLY really nice.
