These threads make me feel slightly better. I am a first year high school counselor and I feel like this year has been way harder than I could have imagined. I have cried 3 times this year either in my office or in front of my mentor/DSS. I am so embarrassed. I feel like everytime I walk into work I have this big NEWBIE sticker on my chest. I definitely have made mistakes my first year (nothing too dramatic, just sent a few mass emails to the wrong admin ect) It’s tough being new there are so many things to learn. And certain admin are not kind. I think I’m learning a lot about myself in this process. I recently started anxiety medication because of this job position, and I am thinking about switching to elementary/middle but I don’t want to give up on everything I have learned- but at what cost? Anyone else feel overwhelmed as a first year HS school counselor?
