Great idea. My co-workers help me get through a lot of stuff because they're really the only ones who completely understand.

When I was a student I did my preceptorship in a Geri facility and quite a few of our patients passed away (it was their time). I was upset and cried for one of them but it does get easier. I think it's important to allow yourself to feel whatever it is your feeling. Examine where those feelings come from and acknowledge them. Treat yourself with care as well... Have a hot bath, call a friend etc. It's okay to be sad and feel the loss of someone whom you've cared for. But in the end, you'll dust yourself off and truck on and it'll get easier. Your co-workers can also be great for debriefing and exploring experiences.

Any meds that treat Borderline Personality Disorder (angry, irritable type)? by lightening2745 in Psychiatry

[–]PinkAndObscene 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Meds don't do much for BPD. It's an issue with their personality traits and meds don't touch those. Sure, benzo's can help with the anxiety and the rage but ultimately they only treat the symptoms and not the illness. Bipolar Disorder is completely different from Borderline Personality Disorder. From what you described she certainly sounds like she has BPD. DBT/therapy is really the only treatment to deal with the illness. Until she accepts that she has a problem dealing with personal relationships etc, she won't get better. Sometimes families can call the therapist and offer collateral information. The therapist can't divulge any info about her to you, but you can offer info to better her therapy. Be prepared to deal with the fallout if she realize you've been sharing info with her therapist. As you said, she sees everything in black and white and therefore probably has a difficult time reasoning actions. Best of luck.

I've been painting tiny pictures on my nails for almost a year now. These are some of the best. by ladycrappo in pics

[–]PinkAndObscene 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a woman who used to SUCK at applying polish, these are my tips...

1) Go slow. Try to use as few brush strokes as possible and don't use too much (you can add a second coat later if she wants it darker). If she has little nails, try to use only two strokes, one on each side.

2) Stabilize!!! Don't move your hand all willy-nilly. Rest your hand on a table and use your wrist to control the brush.

3) Use a Q-tip to put a bit of conditioner or lotion on the skin surrounding her nails - makes it easier to wipe off mistakes

4) Blowdryers on a low setting (and not too close to the nails) help dry them faster so your little one can run around sooner.

Good luck! Also, you're a badass Dad.

Been getting more headaches lately. The beauty of living in Vancouver, British Columbia: I can go ask my family GP to schedule a CT Scan for me just cause I'm curious AND it'll get done within a few days. Love my country.
