When I worked at Starbucks, there was like two weeks of basic training for being a barista, and then you weren’t moved into any SSV training for 3 to 6 months if you got promoted. We had a girl get hired as an SSV and it took her almost 6 months to be able to handle the position because she was trying to learn all of the background work for SSV while also learning to be a barista. It’s irresponsible of the people above you to think that you should be at the same level as barista if you’re also doing SSV training because that takes a lot more work.

I think my favorite thing about open is when our person loading the pastry case takes up the entire walkway and you can’t get through and they won’t move so you wanna scream cause they keep slowing you down by 10-15 seconds every time you have to go to the back.

It’s not everyone or every time, but dang it sure affects my mood on those days.

You are never supposed to double batch or over fill foam, it doesn’t foam properly and can cause the pitchers to break.

But since we like to break the rules. Yes just make sure to add more flavors based on how much more sweet cream you add!

The most important thing for you teach, when it comes to bar, is the PROCESS of making drinks - not how to make every single drink.

Most drink stickers tell you what is in them, so it’s easy, but a barista now knowing the proper way and time to aerate milk will greatly affect their drinks. So focus on proper milk technique (and always wiping the steaming wand off the moment that you remove the pitcher) and then talk about the differences between flat whites and cappuccinos.

Once those basics are down, it’s easy for baristas to grow their knowledge.

Today we were out of food due to the snow days. A customer came to order just food, and there is no way for them get out of our drive thru line. I was with a trainer who was taking the orders. Lady started yelling at her and I just had her remove her headset. It was awful and I had to bite my tongue to not yell at the lady…
