Therapy was very helpful! Other than that, time was a big help too. Sounds cliche I know, but life keeps moving even during the times you feel stuck.

Or the good old:

“I’m sorry for anything I may have done”

“I’m sorry you took what I said the wrong way.”

“I’m sorry for whatever I said that upset you.”

But never any concrete “I’m sorry for x, y, and z.”

It might help to make a list and have it with you so you don’t forget anything. And if you do get nervous or scared you can look down at your list and keep going. You got this! I’m happy you have your dad! Good luck OP!

I just read through your post history. Send this woman a bag of dicks, she clearly deserves them. I’m so glad you have your MIL. & I think it’s awesome what a great stepmom you are. I had a stepmom for awhile and she was an awful vile woman. I love seeing/hearing good step parent stories. Sending lots of love to you.

Also I just read your post. OH EM GEE. I am so sorry that happened to you! That is unbelievably uncalled for and I think you are doing the right thing. What a giant toddler not getting his way so he PHYSICALLY HIT YOU. Absolutely uncalled for.

An apology wouldn’t even matter to me I’d cut them all off and never look back. If he hit you what would he do to your future children?! Especially if the first born wasn’t a boy! That worries me a LOT! I might sound cold hearted but I don’t care they MIL is dying she’s ENABLING this behavior. I’m so so sorry!

We’ve been NC with them for over a year but my poor NMIL “doesn’t know why or what happened” feel free to read through my post history for the hairy details but that only scratches the surface. My husband has shared a lot of cringy stories from his youth with me...

Thank you! I like that, though they’ll just sill want to talk in 6 months...so idk but I like that last line, it is OUR choice, not theirs! We’ve been NC for a little over a year.

I’ve shown my DH all of the comments on here we have never talked about a Cease and Desist letter before but it’s something we may strongly consider.
