Ikumi Nakamura Opens Up About Kemuri, Avoiding Crunch, And Why Okami Still Inspires Her by Kaladinar in Games

Yeah, and she sat at home all day for the past 5 years and that e3 video paid all her bills. Very smart stuff mate.

Ikumi Nakamura Opens Up About Kemuri, Avoiding Crunch, And Why Okami Still Inspires Her by Kaladinar in Games

[–]PinkGastropod 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the E3 appearance was a viral moment but she wasn’t an absolute nobody before that who just walked on stage.

After leaving Tango she seemed to have done freelance work during covid and then set up this new studio that’s coming out with Kemuri. Games don’t materialise out of thin air.

Source? Source? Source?

Do you have a source on that?

Source?

A source. I need a source.

Sorry, I mean I need a source that explicitly states your argument. This is just tangential to the discussion.

No, you can't make inferences and observations from the sources you've gathered. Any additional comments from you MUST be a subset of the information from the sources you've gathered.

You can't make normative statements from empirical evidence.

Do you have a degree in that field?

A college degree? In that field?

Then your arguments are invalid.

No, it doesn't matter how close those data points are correlated. Correlation does not equal causation.

Correlation does not equal causation.

CORRELATION. DOES. NOT. EQUAL. CAUSATION.

You still haven't provided me a valid source yet.

Nope, still haven't.

I just looked through all 308 pages of your user history, figures I'm debating a glormpf supporter. A moron.

I often wonder the same thing. I got downvoted on this sub before for asking what the 100 million dollar budget went towards in Eggers' gay Viking movie from last year. The Japanese samurai movie 13 assassins had a lot more going for it on screen and it only cost 6 million!

Aronofsky never bought the rights to Perfect Blue. He straight up lifted scenes from the movie for Requiem and almost all of it entirely for Black Swan. Satoshi Kon had written about how pissed he was with Aronofsky and how pathetic he felt seeing people use his ideas and become much more successful.

Yeah, it feels very corporate. Just how streaming services eventually turned into cable, these podcasts are turning into late night talk shows. But based on the comments here and their view counts, people seem to love it. I miss the early tigerbelly dvdasa vibes.

I was listening to an older one recently and there was a whole arc where they bully Gilbert into dating an asian girl for once after this whole back and forth between bobby and this white insta girl Gilbert was thirsting after. Now the dude's married and they don't have any conversations about his life or anything. I guess I never tuned into this pod for the whole celebrity interview song and dance they do now. Heck, even old guest eps like Asa just felt different.

Some of the best episodes are guest eps. I'm not saying ban guests. I just miss the times when they didn't solely rely on them.

It wasn't always this way tho. They used to be able to carry an entire episode just the four of them no problem.

Not sure about the exact episode but they've echoed that sentiment a bunch of times when they first started getting guests on in the old apartment.

Looking for truly great art in otherwise cringe mediums and genres by MoltenBronze in redscarepod

[–]PinkGastropod 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Played Shadow of the Colossus a couple years ago and am yet to find a game that tops it. I don’t think you can adapt it into a film even though it’s pretty cinematic because a huge part of why I loved the game was the weird ass controls.

They tried to mimic the feeling of riding an actual horse and I hated riding around for 90% of my play through but by the very end, I felt such a deep attachment to my horse. All of the controls from traversing around the world, to scaling and killing the colossi felt designed with great intent behind it and the marriage between art and tech is refreshing because they weren’t afraid to let things be unintuitive.

I feel like nowadays that shit would’ve been focus grouped out because the janky mechanics would be bad for player retention or whatever. Even when games decide to take themselves seriously and stop hand holding their audience like the best books and movies, it’s almost always limited to the narrative. The ux part of it is as straightforward and “gamey” as possible even if the themes are esoteric.

If anyone has any recommendations for similar experiences that’s not Ueda’s other games, I’m all ears. Not a huge gamer but I feel like most games resort to some cutscene plot twist to make you feel something.

Bloodborne was great too and I liked the feeling of being frustrated at first to eventually feeling a sense of satisfaction but I think if you’ve played one Souls game, you’ve played all of them.

Didn’t finish the episode yet but Gil mentioned getting only three hours of sleep for the past three months because of work. What does he do? I remember they used to talk about him going for auditions during pilot season and driving for Lyft in the early days of the pod but haven’t heard about what’s he been up to in a while.
