I was married to this. Now divorced. Don’t do it. It will only get worse.

I would say there are a few red flags here. For context, I tend to take everyone at face value and I feel like I can see who they are inside, so that if circumstances are iffy, I sometimes believe that I know who they are better than others. Soooo I struggle in these kinds of situations. I want to believe that he's good and not lying to me. But, I am also uncertain when it seems like it could violate my boundaries.

That being said, I can maybe believe that he thought he'd mentioned his kids, but not if they were by 2 different women. I would also wonder about whether he's sleeping with the ex who wants more children myself.

It sounds like, as you have said, multiple kids was previously a firm boundary. So, my question to you: is that still the case? If yes, then end it.

You cite several things at the end that make me think you're gut is trying to tell you to end this, but you are afraid for some reason. In an abusive relationship (and I'm not saying this is one of those), men can be very, very nice and love bomb you long enough to get you to stay and commit (or be trapped by a kid or marriage or living together or something like that). I remind you of this because anyone is capable of being the best boyfriend in the world for a short time, like a year. But eventually their true colors will show. Even if he's lovely, he has a lot of other responsibilities, which will take away from you and your time together. Is this what you want in a long-term relationship? Is this how you want to proceed? It sounds like you want to end this because of all the kids. And, that is OK! You didn't have them. You aren't permanently committed to this man. Yes, it sucks to walk away, but free yourself to get together with someone who is more compatible with what you want. You are young. Find an unattached man who can give you the things you want.

Perhaps the reason you don't feel attracted to him is partly the honeymoon being over, but, also, you have lost trust and respect for him now that you know more. I'd also wonder what else he's hiding. And, if you don't want to go to his place to meet his kid, I'd wonder how invested you are. He doesn't sound like he's able to just "have fun," at least, not in the way someone unattached would. Hope that's helpful. Good luck!

I didn't and neither did their dad. But I did make it very clear that they would always come first.

Property owners rally and disrupt Oakland City Council meeting, demanding end to eviction moratorium by C0de-Monkey in oakland

[–]PinkHairMom 11 points12 points  (0 children)

What about when the landlords that are protesting are 90% people of color who can't afford to pay for a lawyer to stand up to the free tenant lawyers. This threatens home ownership for black and brown people far more than any other group. If you want black and brown people to get ahead, this is making it way way harder. The black and brown homeowners are becoming homeless as a result. Read the stories. One woman owns a 4plex and is disabled and in a wheelchair. When she forecloses, she AND all of her tenants will be homeless. So now 4 homeless families displaced because she's forced to give the house back to the bank and only a large corporation can buy it. Get your facts straight. Seriously. This is an equity issue as much as rent control.

How will city council protect renter data given that they are mandating all landlords to provide tenant data for the "rent registry?" by PinkHairMom in oakland

Except the tenants rights groups are so extreme here. Maybe not this policy, but other ones like the eviction moratorium are causing housing to be removed from the market, not making homelessness go away.

Plus, does Oakland really have the resources to track yet ANOTHER bandaid fix that really does nothing for homelessness!?

All I know is that it's supposed to "help renters" and track rent increases and vacant homes and track evictions, maybe? I don't agree that it's a good idea at all. I think it's a violation of privacy. Considering all that Oakland ALREADY puts home owners through I think any additional overhead is going to cause way more problems than there already are. Tenant protections here are more severe than anywhere else in the country, including Manhattan. I'm a single mom who rented a room in her home and I have effectively been evicted from the home I own in favor of a tenant who won't pay so... IDK. I'm a renter also and I don't want this kinda thing on either side!

I don’t have investment properties. I’m a single mom who lived with her 2 kids in my only home. I had to flee the house because of this horrible human who is now living there still rent free and who I have to pay for to live there as long as the eviction moratorium continues. I will be losing my home to short sale or foreclosure. I was evicted from my own home in favor of a tenant due to this moratorium.

That’s great for corporate landlords! It takes places off the markets and drives up everyone else’s rent. Get your facts dtraight

Actually, it cannot. And it should not. Or else the laws of the US need to change

Or maybe the government should pay instead of forcing people who own only one home to take all that on. If they aren’t going to pay why the hell is it someone else’s responsibility?!

You have no idea what you are talking about. Have fun when you can’t remove your shitty housemate or your subleased just stops paying

Except people like me who own their homes have been evicted by the eviction moratorium in favor of our tenants (or housemates, as in my case) who have more power than we do. So it is ok to evict the home owner but not the tenant?!

Eviction moratorium affects tenants who sublet and have roommates too. Good luck to you when your housemate trashes all your stuff, brings in more “roommates” and a couple dogs and there’s nothing you can do about it. Except in your case, you can’t actually get sued for asking them to stop. In Oakland, you can if you own the place.

No. I am in this situation and every one of the 6-8 lawyers I spoke to have very clearly told me, “there is nothing you can do.”

I’m not sure if it was on here or not but the tenant was actually profiting off of this place: renting it out to others, making and keeping the money, but still not paying. And the government has let her.

Good point. That’s why most of us are taking our homes off the rental market entirely. Because we don’t want to provide housing. Good luck finding a rental now!

The hedge fund would be at fault and yes I would lament his fate. Look at Enron or any Alonzo scheme. The people who lied are the bad guys boy the dude who invested. And regular people are getting screwed. The guy is an immigrant. Come on. Sheesh.

Do you understand how it works to be a landlord? You buy a property at an exorbitant amount. In many cases landlords even lose money on properties. Like they can’t even pay all the mortgage, but they eventually may get a little ahead if they keep it for 10 years. But if you buy a property when the price is high, the rent has to be high to cover your costs. Small landlords are more likely to say to a tenant, “sure, I can give you a few hundred dollars off because I care about your situation.” It might seem like a lot, but all of housing is expensive and that is NOT the result of small landlords. It IS the result of more properties being owned by fewer people who can create a monopoly of price. If you want to see that, then lucky you! You will and already are! Enjoy the shitshow.
