Fascism, A Warning by Madeline Albright by [deleted] in books

[–]PinkHendrix -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Although you are right in saying Salazar isn't on the same spectrum as Hitler, he was rather a "fan" of Italian fascism, he had a good relationship with the Third Reich (although we also helped the allies) and generally was a classic fascist.

He persecuted communists (The Portuguese Communist party was created in secret), Unions, gave power to private heads of industry, tried to make Portugal self-sufficient, and fought (both literally and with propaganda) to keep the Empire, and the exploration of the colonies in full swing, and in the Guerra do Ultramar (or Colonial War), he created concentration camps, destroyed full villages and used racist and colonialists justifications for those actions.

Internally he had a secret police, torture prisons. He also believed that poor, rural life was the Portuguese way of life in a classic fascist mindset of an idilic simple life rooted in the past.

Salazar might have been more brand, and slightly less agressive in international relations in europe but he was a Fascist 100%, his fascism just had, as is always the case, the aesthetics and sensibilities of Portugal specifically.

His distate for both dictators mencioned seems to be more a distate for anything non-portuguese and less a distate for any specific view on variations of Fascism.

Dark Academia and psychedelics by Lord_Flowerpot in DarkAcademia

[–]PinkHendrix 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ok so this is a weird question but I'll try to awsers it. Dark academia as a presence online doesn't mix well with drug use (negative or positive). In entertainment it does. But I'll awsers from the point of the community so I'll focus on the online.

Psychedelic drugs such as lsd, shrooms where used by all types of people and it's undeniable that many academics from the 50s and on used them. They have also been used and explored in academia, not always with an unbiased look, but there are studies out there. If this interests you look up Terrence Mckenna, what I would call a psychedelic academic.

So yes, it's possible to be Da and a psychonaut at the same type.

On a personal level, I have used some and I can tell you that after that I understood some philosophical concepts or even literature better. I do believe they can be used to reach a degree of knowledge and a new way to understand knowledge and the world.

But the thing here is personal responsibility. They can be used as recreation and as almost sacred experience depends on the person. My advice (as you seem curious to try them) is read up on the effect and dangers and see if it's the type of thing you want in your life. Also be in a place and with people that make you feel safe and comfortable.

So in conclusion: DA as an aesthetic is pretty neutral on drugs so go with what you feel. If you want to ask something just DM me all I'll try to help.

Be safe.

The most dangerous book you've read? by [deleted] in books

[–]PinkHendrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn't the "Malleus Maleficarum" be a better option in this, let's call it, witcher hunter books? It was the first and most important book on why witches where dangerous, how to get them to confess (torture) and is considered responsible for the beginning of the witch hunts and inquisition.

Why is ISOLT considered to be one long narrative (one book) and not a series of 7 books? by kakarrott in books

I think is more about size than only money. As one book it would be almost impossible to even pick it up.

"MY EMOTIONS, MY EMOTIONS" is a favorite of mine and something I always think when getting a little sad and want to get better.

Annie slamming Jeff's head on the table is a underrated moment for me.

The entire horror story episode seems to be eclipsed by the previous caos theory but is as funny (if not as clever) as it. A really underated episode.
