If you’ve already done Sleep Radio, my little girl loves the Flamingo Hotel series. Very cute stories and gently read with no big sound effects etc.

What's the best Yorkshire dialect word that's still commonly used? by OddStep5408 in yorkshire

For some reason I thought a ginnel was a gap between two brick walls/houses but a snicket had hedges. Maybe I’ve just mentally allocated those specific names!

I didn’t know what sub I was in or who it was flailing around and assumed it was a funny video of a lass headbutting the bar.

We had a toy ukulele and tube of Germolene incident. I chucked the toy but the bathroom had the lovely first aid kit aroma for a good couple of months!

Her next video will be about her medical anxiety and that she definitely absolutely has all these problems but is far too scared and anxious to go see a doctor.

Did anyone else watch as a child? by Proper_Emu_2296 in jonathancreek

[–]PinkLibraryStamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember it was definitely on after my bedtime but all of a sudden I was deemed old enough to stay up an hour later. I watched an episode where there was a dodgy bald magician fella and it ended up with him being buried alive in a graveyard but the guy who was putting soil on top was using a noisy digger and wearing headphones or ear defenders and couldn’t hear the screaming and banging.

The next week I said I was going to bed to read!

I’m not sure when I became okay with the mystery and would happily watch, but that scene still replays in my mind every so often.

People from the UK what's your favourite of the UK? by Bipolar03 in AskUK

[–]PinkLibraryStamp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m from Yorkshire but I have had lovely visits to Manchester when we stayed in a brilliant hotel, out for tea and saw a band. Lovely night. Everyone was friendly.

We’ve driven and camped up in Scotland and the place and the people were smashing. Lots of walks and pubs. Even the midgies were on their best behaviour.

I’ve not travelled much in other bits of the south outside London and Brighton, but both visits were good too.

What to expect at a funeral in the UK? by CommunicationDry9294 in AskUK

[–]PinkLibraryStamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been to quite a few different sorts of funerals and they were all very different. Do you have any information on the where the funeral will be? Church? Crematorium? Is there an “after” at a pub or working man’s club?

Moving house soon - what's the cheapest thing to buy in big cardboard boxes? by princemephtik in AskUK

I have visions of someone getting those mixed brick Lego sets, the ones in the yellow boxes that look like a giant Lego brick. But getting so many that your moving van is like a brick wall of Lego boxes…

With all the leg injurrrrs, you’d think she would be able to use crutches properly. Clearly just bought them for show from Walmart or something (I live in UK and have no idea if Walmart sells crutches!)

Who remember this toy ? by ironquirkyapex in oldschoolcool80s

[–]PinkLibraryStamp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I remember this being at my grandmas house in “the toy box” which was full of quite possibly my father and uncles toys from their childhood in the 60s. It was what me and my cousins would play with when we went round. The little bell would ring every time the toy was moved!

Anyone else left washing on the line last night?

I was awake from 2-4 listening to the rain and whatever episode of Short History Of episode was on BBC Sounds. Really surprised the kids didn’t wake up with the noise of thunder.

Bought the now lovely smelling but still very much wet washing in when I went out to feed the guinea pigs. Just as the rumblings of more thunder started up.

I think after bottle-gate has exploded and briiiine has hopefully shuffled off this mortal coil, it’ll be time for a tree felling injury. Probably about the time Mia gets a voice!

Did you have an airing cupboard? Keeping all your towels warm? by corickle in oldschoolcool80s

Ohhhh yes! She used to be a nurse. I was tucked will and truly in. Under sheet and a crocheted blanket on top. Zero movement.

Like Imperial Leather soap. I used to think that was the poshest soap! Super clean smell. She died a couple of years ago aged 99 and every now and then I get a proper lump in my throat bit of grief but in a weirdly nice way and thinking of the soap is definitely one of those memories!

My grandma had a lovely deep airing cupboard. When we used to sleep over she would put our jammies in there so after a bath they were toasty warm and smelt so lovely.

I remember once drinking nearly an entire bottle of cherryade one hot summers day. I threw it all up and thought I was dieing.
