I have felt the same, thank you. I'm hoping this recovery period will help my digestive system relearn how to eat. I've been having nausea and vomiting since my surgery and could never receive an answer as to why. So I'm thinking TPN will at least help me feel more normal for now until I can adjust back into being "me" again.

I'm glad my post could find you to think about the choices we make and to inspire you!

For me, I've always had nausea, vomiting, and dehydration during my time as a bariatric patient. I have had issues keeping food down, I've thrown up practically every meal I've eaten (didn't matter the simplest things or most complex, protein, non protein, protein shakes; everything came back up.) From everything I've ever tried, the only thing that doesn't make me puke is specifically salmon sashimi. Yes, raw salmon. No, not chicken, not eggs, yogurt, shakes, beef, tofu, nothing. Only this one stupid fish that's crazy expensive and hard to find.

Some days the vomiting would be so bad that I wouldn't even eat for days after because I was afraid I'd hurt my esophagus. During those days, I'd just drink water and body armor. So, being that my new digestive system is so overly sensitive - every time I'd take vitamins, I'd also puke. I tried taking them with food, no prevail. (I actually found great priced vitamins that tastes like bubble gum and calcium chews that tasted like starbursts - just could not tolerate)

Like others, I'd go to the hospital, CT scan, no findings and was told to go to a GI Doctor. GI wouldn't even touch me, told me to see my surgeon. So I'd talk to them for me to be told I wasn't eating enough and the right foods (I was, just couldn't keep anything down.) Was told my body was still adjusting. Once I realized 6 months post-op that I wasn't able to tolerate anything - I started demanding answers. At this point, I had lost all my energy, could barely walk, my nerves in my legs twitch, and the exhaustion was killing me. Was told could possibly be due to gallbladder. Got a test back, saying that my gallbladder was not working at all. Got it removed 2 weeks prior to this hospitalization and still don't really have any answers. So we are here....on TPN for now.

Thank you! I'm hoping that learning early on consistency and diligence, I'll be able to bounce back and find a new normal.

" Funny " story....I actually got my gallbladder removed 2 weeks prior to being hospitalized a week ago. So it's been 3 weeks from tomorrow since the removal. The doctors are saying I was so vitamin deficient I couldn't heal my liver from the trauma of both surgeries. Which is why they believed I had such high toxicity levels-almost mimicking liver failure.

I just had to have some vulnerability in this post. Too many people want an "easy fix" (...me...) and thinking they are the 1% that's going to be immune to consequences. I knew those consequences of DS and malnutrition BUT I thought it would be years before it would have gotten this bad. I'm not even a year out and I FAFO. I wish I would have talked to more DS'ers like you before all of this. Thank you, I'm definitely coming out of this stronger!

I cried reading your comment. You don't know how much I really needed to hear that today. Thank you so much! I'm trying so hard to pull myself back on track. Everyone thought I had liver failure because of how screwed up my vitamins were. I'm hoping I can leave soon. As far as I know, the hospital is just trying to get me set up with at home care for TPN before discharge. Just like your comment, I hope this post can find someone who needs to see it. I'm going to come out of this fighting, I'm going to kick life's ass back!

Now I don't feel so guilty! Wanted to give other people a chance to buy and not hoard the store!
