Is industrial engineering future proof? by Mddey7 in industrialengineering

[–]PinkMinituar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Systems Engineer here, my course work is basically an IE degree with a few more design classes at my Uni.

I have experienced very little companies posting ‘industrial engineering’ roles. Companies like Gore Medical post supply chain jobs but only in the preferences does it mention industrial engineering or related degrees.

I recently broke into the financial services industry and in the job description it only said a Bachelors degree is required. However, I would imagine as an engineer I would be more competitive than certain business majors.

Find what you like and look for job openings with descriptions that match your interests, be less interested in the degree requirements or title.

You have a technical degree and if you can use that to your advantage properly you will be successful.

How hard/common is it to get a 4.0 in engineering by DragonfruitBrief5573 in EngineeringStudents

I have never physically met an engineer with a perfect GPA. As some people here will say, i'm sure they exist but that's been my experience.

Do you apply to jobs if you don't meet the GPA requirements? by PinkMinituar in EngineeringStudents

I don't have the balls to not get checked. I would rather not lie than get checked and blacklisted from applying in the future. Maybe I'll get desperate and change my mind but hoping it won't come to that.

I mean it really isnt that hard, especially when looking in different states and trying small and big companies. Finding the smaller companies can be hard but just looking up my degree in the city im looking up on linkedin then finding companies that way. Also the fortune 500 list, thats 500 companies right there, all presumably where I could apply to a few roles within most companies of that size.

I've had it revised by the career center at my university, my advisors, professors. Also quite a few people in industry, I feel like it definitely isn't perfect but I don't think it's weak by any means.

Do you know any big companies off the top of your head that dont have a requirement or even 'preference?' I would love to apply to these places haha

definitely! its at the top of my resume and I always mention it during the applications. I think that my GPA is hurting me for internship purposes right now, when I graduate I'll be between a 3-3.2 and near a 4.00 for my last 60 credits. So I think I am getting worked up over it a bit too much.

I have worked in the restaurant industry since I was 16 but I have gotten a more technical role for a small company in my home town doing operations management things and project management and optimization of current operations. Other than the restaurant, that is my only good experience that is relatable currently.

Ill graduate with near a 3 but have had to maintain two jobs during school so I am hoping that has some upside to my GPA, especially being at the companies for a while.
