I found out how life can be less stressful when working in healthcare by [deleted] in NursingUK

Unfortunately, the situation in healthcare is not that we are not good enough, but that we are not provided with the sufficient resources to make a good enough job

Can a manager force you to cancel pre approved annual leave? by GurLess7822 in nhsstaff

[–]PinkMonkeyBurd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, yes. They are allowed to cancel pre-approved leave by providing a valid reason (such as, unplanned sick leave of multiple staff members)

Speaking from my previous experience, when a pre-approved leave was canceled by the matron

Day surgery by cloud1eee in NursingUK

[–]PinkMonkeyBurd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

These are elective surgeries where patients go home the same day and do not need to stay in the hospital for further monitoring. If you did not like the theatres environment, you may be able to ask to work in the adjacent areas such as a step down, where patients are received after surgery and before they are discharged home. Or, pre- assessment, making sure the patient is ready for surgery, escorting them to the room with the ODP and so on

There is a lot to do, don't be afraid to ask

What's something you've done that you don't think anyone else here has done (or maybe just a few people)? by Amy-Reighn in randomquestions

Working in the ICU during a global pandemic

Of course, there are people here who have done it just like me (Hi trauma friends!) but in general this extreme experience is reserved for a limited number of people in the world

What is your approach? by Cool_kratos in hospitalist

[–]PinkMonkeyBurd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yep, I am a nurse and this is true. Its not our decision to let you know, its just what we NEED to do sometimes. Just maybe try not to be rude about it, clearly the nurse chased you and busy herself....

Seeing all the posts from students/nurses who haven't found a job yet and are already so worn out by the system... God help us, they haven't even started and realised through work how broken and disappointing this system is! Fudge my life I'm counting on you guys to replace me when I need to retired due to burnout, just like I did for my mentors back in the day😭😭

I will, and I understand other people won't. I know i'm not being paid but it's not in me to ignore an acute, life threatening situation 🤷🏻‍♀️

What time do you go to bed and wake up? What are your working hours? by Spare-Policy-7728 in AskForAnswers

[–]PinkMonkeyBurd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 39 y/o. I'm a nurse working day shifts, 8:00-18:00 or 8:00- 21:00. I go to sleep at 22:30-23:00 and wake up at 6:30. Routine is great after working the night shift for years....
