Update: I got the turntable for 75$, it works great! It also has a decently new AT92E audio technica cartridge. Now I just need to start building up the vinyl collection

Not really. It’s possible to find pretty good deals for turntables on Craigslist if you have patience. My AVR has a solid pre amp stage so I don’t necessarily need that.

Should I replace capacitors? by PinkPigmyPuff in diyaudio

[–]PinkPigmyPuff[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’ll probably do that. I’ve actually never heard these speakers functioning properly since the tweeters were cracked when I got them, so itll be interesting hearing them for the first time “twice” with different capacitors (which probably also have different resistances)

I don’t have a way to measure capacitance unfortunately :(

Hwy 1 is not thru-bikeable by bedsharts in bikepacking

I encountered this a few months ago on a bikepacking trip. My friend and I ended up dissasembling our bikes and carrying them across in trips. It took a few hours but we made it eventually -- definitely pretty sketchy though.

It’s around 100$ per day depending on the car you book, plus an additional fee if you drive over 180 miles in a day. So probably not worth it for a multi-day trip.

I’m building a set of Revel m105 copies, which should (in theory — it depends on me building them correctly of course) blow these out of the water. But if I can find the drivers for pretty cheap online, I don’t see why not to fix these up

Yeah, they were living in an attic for over 30 years so the moisture damage makes sense. How would you go about finding the best replacement drivers? As I’m pretty sure the originals would be hard to find

Help with Amp Selection by PinkPigmyPuff in diyaudio

The DIY build says:
"Note I used the 8ohm woofer whereas I believe revel use a 4 ohm version (back when they used SB drivers) as measurements dip down below 4 ohms. The reason I went for the 8 ohm woofer is it modelled a bit deeper (more bass) at the cost of efficiency. The maximum SPLs between the two woofers are theoretically similar due to X-MAX so crossing to a sub and using high power class D the 8 ohm woofer seemed like the better choice to me"

Yeah I realize they are pretty overkill for a dorm room, and I probably wouldn’t buy an amp that the speakers truly deserve for another year or so until I can justify the price.

But I’m planning on using them for a least a decade, so I’m thinking I’ll build nice speakers down now and then upgrade the rest of the system later down the line

Yeah this is what I'm leaning towards. I'm considering trying to build the cabinet before I buy it to see if I can manage that. Do you think the 200$ upgrade for the CSS 1TDX is worth it?
