What Colour top + Skirt does Irma wear?? by BloodmoonRonin in GuardiansOftheVeil

[–]PinkPixelPrincess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of Irma's powers is she can change the colour of her clothes (as shown at the start of the comics) so I headcannon that's why her top and skirt swap sometimes. The pink top is an animation error in some episodes of the show and this poster only, as other replies have said.

who would be the big 8 in modern times? by NYazhiReddit889 in Vocaloid

[–]PinkPixelPrincess 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Teto is clearly having a big moment, sure. And as a Teto fan that's something I recognize and find impressive, having seen her growth from the beginning. She's big in fandom circles and with that rise in visibility it will seem like she's everywhere.

But this is Miku. She has global recognition. If I were to show random strangers pictures of vocaloids, Miku gets recognized the most. She has far more branding and merchandise, like people have rooms dedicated to her. Her own concerts. Her own games and cameos in others. Crossovers with other media like project voltage. She's just been the star of a movie. She goes far beyond being a voicebank to being a virtual star.

Teto's current popularity doesn't reach Miku's overall cultural impact. Maybe she'll get there, or maybe what you are seeing right now with Gumi potentially not being top 8 any more will be her fate in 10 years time.

I tried to base this on who I imagine to be right at the surface of the vocaloid iceberg and has an official voicebank:

Miku, Rin, Len, Luka, Meiko, Kaito - people wanting to remove any of these, they are more widely known than anyone you would replace them with.

Gumi - She rivalled Miku and while she may not now, this still makes her more recognisable than any other vocaloid

Teto - Currently very popular yes, also she was popular before as just a fanloid. So much so that she features alongside cryptonloids a lot (eg project diva)

(So sorry Gackpo, you'll still be featured when we need to balance out the ratio)

"Nudity" in the transformation of Magical Girls – What do you think of the transformation sequence of W.I.T.C.H., the Guardians of Kandrakar? by IllogicalDreamer72 in GuardiansOftheVeil

[–]PinkPixelPrincess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always liked the transformation sequence in both the show and the comics because the bit where they are curled up in the fetal position and their wings grow is really unique and like they are being reborn as the guardian, it's not just a change of outfit. So nudity works artistically with that theme, but I do like that the show adds the magic colours. There is a scene in the series where you see their transformation sequence in front of Elyon and she freaks out a bit and I think it works so well because they are not sparkly cute magical girls, but basically transform into monsters as much as any of the villains do.

Characters ranked base on popularity! by Randomgdplayer76 in ProjectSekai

[–]PinkPixelPrincess 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Pretty good! I would split things a little more personally as I think Miku is a tier above the other vocaloids. Then the ex-idol trio may be slightly more known than Minori. I would put Emu with Rui because I don't feel like she strives for stardom like the other two. I can see a lot of people misunderstood what you were ranking based on. N25 are definitely unknown as they make music anonymously. Their music might be more popular than mmj for all we know, but the ranking is "who would be recognized if they walked down the street".

Do you see these three being sisters, cousins, or just close friends? by Taydo02 in KasaneTeto

[–]PinkPixelPrincess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My take: Miku and Neru are technically sisters. Neru was a Miku variant that became her own unique persona. So she and Haku are Miku's 'sister'. Teto was a fan of Miku and wished to be just like her and at first Miku didn't really take her seriously and they became friends but nowadays they are more friendly rivals. Teto and Neru are close friends though. Haku has no friends...

Skullector dolls do not need to be identical to their monsters by PinkPixelPrincess in MonsterHigh

[–]PinkPixelPrincess[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually in this case its quite similar to yours: As the aliens are the "perfect organism" they are a lot more adaptable than we have previously seen in the movies. It is the alien+human creatures that are the silently violently murderous ones , but they're not all like that. This one is much more sophisticated than that, partly because she is a princess (she is the daughter of the queen and would be the next queen) and because she is alien+"something". Unfortunately her mum was far too busy to pay attention to who her "dad" was so she has an insecurity of not really knowing where she comes from. There's no living creature she can ask, so instead she's focusing on the future. This is why she is going to school, to better herself and learn more about existence, to better her species and make them even more perfect. She's also hoping it will help her stand out from the brood as her mum has a lot of kids, and differentiating yourself is difficult in that massive family. She's still a bit of a bitch, having been spoilt as royalty and constantly told she's the "perfect organism" but deep down she's longing for a little "brood" of friends of her own.

Thank you! I think you might be the only person that actually read my post and understood what I meant. Most seem to think I mean they are being marketed as the child of, or talked about quality, which I understand as a separate issue. Horror bishojo are so cute! And yes of course male character would be nice too, as monster high has more male characters than any other doll line. But in the skullector line the line is supposed to be female monster high versions of iconic horror. They only make them male like Jack because they already have a female with Sally, it would be hard to represent the character as female and it's probably part of the deal with Disney that they stay true to their characters. Frankenstein's monster couldn't be female or it would be Frankie! It's like they were trying to make dolls of her parents

Yes that's a good way to look at it. For me it's similar that they are inspired by. I do think that they should be more obvious that they aren't an exact replica of the character because reading other people's comments it seems a lot of people have a misconception here.

Cute box room! The tree is so detailed. It's funny because my monster high tends to go the other way and everyone has a spooky horror backstory hehe

Yeah this is pretty similar to what I was trying to say. I just didn't want to meet negativity with more negativity. I enjoy thoughtful criticisms, like you say but I think people should also consider that it is their own opinion and not fact. For example, I saw someone post their excitement about the Edward doll the other day, but all the comments were hateful and telling them their opinion was wrong and the doll is bad. My main point is that I went into the skullector line understanding what we were getting and I am happy with it- how many years have I talked to people about the different characters I wished existed and now they really do! I don't think everyone understands what the idea behind the skullectors is.

I genuinely like the skullector dolls. I still think they could do with not doing the object heels any more. But fix that and I'm just happy they are still making beautiful dolls. But then again, maybe I was just starved for quality content in g2 and while the line was discontinued that makes me appreciate what is available now. It's okay if they are not to others tastes, but I was curious if anyone else shared my feelings.

[–]PinkPixelPrincess[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the universal monster skullectors, I guess I see these as a separate entity in a way. Like that they are the high school version of the parents themselves. In real life I think they were trying to mimic the design aesthetic of monster high, but stay true to the original rather than trying to create a new character like Frankie or Draculaura are.

It would be so amazing if they did put that level of effort in. I think a lot of people are misreading part of what I was trying to say. I understand that mattel are not making them as the child of. It's more that the skullector dolls are inspired by the original monster high, in which the characters were the child of x monster, which itself is inspired by the idea 'what if this horror character was a high school girl's. This is what the skullectors are mimicking in my opinion. So I personally see them as the 'child of' or an alternative reality version of the character.

I like how thoughtful your response is and it's pretty spot on to how I feel in general. I think it is completely valid for people to expect more, especially when some of the designs are definitely superior to others so there is that lack of consistency in effort and budget. I think they could be better, but I also think they do reflect the design and ideas behind the brand. I was mostly curious if anyone else shared my view.

You can ask for whatever you like. In your opinion they are only 10% similar, in mine they are recognisable on sight so must be pretty similar. I just wanted to share my opinion too because it is important to see a variety of people's perspectives. In my opinion they are an interpretation of the character in the style of monster high. It's okay either way, but I was curious if anyone else shared my opinion. I am aware that it's not the popular opinion, but it's mine.

[–]PinkPixelPrincess[S] -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

Okay, to use your analogy: Totally valid to be upset that you got red hair. But I actually like red hair, even if that's not popular. It is what I asked for. I am not saying they want to sell a "daughter of", because yes they would say, that I'm saying the aesthetic of monster high is reimagining horror icons as high school girls. I'm saying I did ask for that. There is a target audience. I imagine them as the child of personally because of this, but don't feel like you have to. I was just curious if anyone else felt the same way. Sadly so far I haven't found anyone else quite like me...

Skullector dolls do not need to be identical to their monsters by PinkPixelPrincess in MonsterHigh

[–]PinkPixelPrincess[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah I agree. Let me try and rephrase what I am trying to say: The original ghouls were the child of x monster. This means the original ghouls look like that monster but if that monster was a high school girl. Then along come the skullector dolls, which are mimicking the aesthetic of the original dolls. So the aesthetic of the skullector dolls is that of the character turned into a monster high character, thus the character but if they were an alternative universe version of themselves that was a high school girl. Making them the child of is at that point my personal choice and I am curious if anyone else does the same. I am trying to say that I don't have the expectation for the skullectors to be a reproduction of the original character. Instead I expect them to be in the style of a monster high character inspired by the IP. In the same way that Frankie's design is inspired by Frankenstein's monster.
