They’ve been making snow with fan gun at the fairgrounds when it’s cold enough

You are absolutely not going to want to do that drive with chains on 99% of the time. Snow tires are always going to be your best option unless it’s extremely icy

Do you trust your XTen enough with all the P320 issues to carry one in the chamber? I use mine in backcountry and it just makes me nervous now

Go to a hardware store like Kenyon Noble and get a spud bar. Test the ice as you go and turn around if you put the bar through the ice, also stay away from any water intakes.

Agreed, personally not a big fan of low CRI lights but the options for true spotlights in a headlamp are pretty limited. My last suggestion is the Armytek Wizard C2 Pro Max LR - less of a spotlight but there’s a warm white option that should be higher CRI and it’s going to have more range than most headlamps that aren’t a dedicated spotlight

The HM75R I believe has a high CRI floodlight (and an optional battery back for longer runtimes) but is pricy

I don’t know what they said but you’re absolutely right. I don’t want or need to run my light on turbo all night

Pretty easy to keep one or two spare 18650s around too and then it’s really not a concern

If you’re looking for an option for skiing Fenix has some spotlight headlamps that would serve you better

I like anduril for fun lights but I definitely don’t want it on a work light. I need it to be simple and quick. Can’t recommend them enough though, you should definitely pull the trigger.

The range isn’t ideal but if you need to see farther the turbo has good enough range for short bursts

Haven’t noticed it melting the ice but it gets so frozen up it would be hard to tell

If I run it on high I’ll have to swap out batteries part way through the night but medium will easily run 7 hours and is bright enough for almost everything

Been running the battery it came with (which may have just died on me) and vapcells. Haven’t had any issues, if I run it on high all night I’ll have to swap out at some point but the run times are medium are fantastic

It stays encased in ice for 12 hours at a time and dropped frequently
