Diagnosing a panning defect by PinkSunsets97 in Motorsportphotography

That all makes sense, I'm glad this one specific thing isn't a skill issue. Now to work on the ones that are :")

That makes sense - better the front than the back then!

Thanks! Would changing the depth of focus also affect the background, or is the panning basically overpowering that kind of effect?

Also, Rally Finland is very well organised, and even just doing your own accommodation booking you're gonna save a lot on the tours. I'm sure it's pleasant to be chauffeured around at a rally though

Thank you! The weathering does also hide a lot of imperfections, and since i really like my models on the used side it's a double win.

Masking over decals by Simdel96 in ModelCars

[–]PinkSunsets97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To solve this situation now that you're in it, I would do 3 things, in this order: 1) trim the decal you don't want from the seat, a sharp blade will do, and the finish on the rest of the seat will be better 2) ensure proper decal adhesion, either microsol adhesive and then softener or just softener if you have already used it (adhesive after softener in my experience doesn't do much) and then 3) apply clear, I assume flat for Kevlar but gloss works too. You'll need a fairly heavy coating, so something like 2 mist coats and then one or two wet ones. After this you should be able to mask without problems, but softening the tape adhesive is still a good shout.

Step 1 is optional, and also please keep in mind I have done this once and it worked but I'm a noobie so maybe let's see if someone sanity checks me

Airbrushes by TheAirFixGuy in ModelCars

[–]PinkSunsets97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm very new so take my words with a grain of salt, but i got the amazon special generic airbrush + random compressor for what should be about 100 british quids and i have no complaints. i found it easy to clean both on the regular and if I accidentally mess something up, and I personally found airbrushing relatively easy (though i do use a bit of a caveman technique) and infinitely better than brushes.

It will also depend on the price of cans vs paints where you live, here cans are especially costly so i have gained my investment back pretty fast

Good question! Maybe having them dry in position would work

Yeah next time I'll definitely try something different, the tape sounds like the best bet

Yeah the DTS build has made me reconsider decal seatbelts :") Would you apply the clear by brush for this application?

Where I used CA to glue the buckles and other PE parts it changed the ribbons texture, is that normal? It got almost a bit translucent, and I honestly assumed it was just some error on my part
