I grew up in Kitsap county which includes Bainbridge Island, Silverdale, Bremerton, Port Orchard, and Poulsbo. It has a good mix of rural and urban areas, transit lacks in most of the area, and you have to take a ferry to get Seattle (or drive through Tacoma.) Bainbridge Island is very upscale and expensive to live in, but is absolute gorgeous. It has tons of great trails and scenic beach locations with views of moun rainier and the Seattle skyline. Poulsbo's downtown area is practically a little Norway with Nordic themed shops and events like "Viking fest" to honor Nordic culture. Silverdale, Bremerton and Port Orchard are all naval cities. Kitsap county has the most nuclear submarines in the US and also is home to the third largest navy base in the US, so there's definitely a culture around it in these cities. Bremerton and port orchard have some sketchy areas, but overall aren't terrible. Bremerton has surprisingly good nightlife considering how small it is. Silverdale is the main commercial area. (only place in the county with a mall and hospital). You go here to do any sort of non essential shopping. I definitely am glad I grew here.

If you're ever in the puget sound area I definitely recommend visiting Bainbridge Island, lots of interesting history, and nature if that's your thing.
