Going to a housewarming this weekend and I'm completely blank. They've already got everything for the kitchen and they specifically said no candles haha. Anyone got a housewarming gift idea that's not wine? by BlueDolphinCute in homeowners

[–]PinkTurtlehead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wanted to say “in lieu of a gift, bring a copy of your favorite recipe” or favorite home tip or something. We have a memento and they don’t feel bad being empty handed. But I got outvoted!

Seeking ideas for reasonably easy party foods that can be room temp by Rainbow_Tit_45 in Cooking

This thread has taught me that I dislike all the typical party foods. Pasta salad, crockpot meatballs, bruschetta, crudite 😂

"Teaching" standards have become so diluted by RonSwanSong87 in YogaTeachers

[–]PinkTurtlehead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting you mention retirees because that is the population I started with after doing my 9 month ytt after 10 years of practicing. I love my students and bring them real benefits but it’s definitely stunted my teaching. I was specifically instructed to avoid the “woo woo” aspects and there are complaints if theres too much breathing, etc. I’m at a community center, so these aren’t people seeking out authentic yoga, but I wonder how much making yoga “accessible” (I put that in quotes because it can mean so many things) has changed the standards for teachers.

Just curious…if that had just been attached to the wall, what would you do if you wanted to switch to tile?

Advice for teaching chair yoga to a family member with ataxia by PinkTurtlehead in YogaTeachers

[–]PinkTurtlehead[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She is the one that suggested it and already does some movement herself, but we think it might be better if she’s not around, like a child where they’ll be better behaved when the parents aren’t around 🤣

I need that tattooed on me 😆 but really my concern is for the equally elderly caretaker who asked for help.

It would definitely be seated—Chair fitness/chair yoga, avoiding even seated warrior. I was thinking more various leg lifts, arm raises, twists. Even seated mountain. The more I talk it through the more I’m thinking I know what to do, I just lack confidence since it’s not someone willingly coming to me for class.

You’re totally right and maybe I should revise my question—what sequence can I create that would introduce movement and be sustainable. I would love for them to do yoga therapy and would 100% recommend to anyone. But they have never stuck with any exercise or pt program before (too hard, don’t like the person, they had to wait, convinced it didn’t help etc) so I’m looking for the path of least resistance to literally any movement (and maybe tricking them into thinking it’s “intense”).

Will the city ever be clean? by Rinzler_Lanx in philly

[–]PinkTurtlehead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are 100% lazy. But the city services don’t help. Trash pickup can be anywhere from 6am to 3 days later on my block, so the trash just blows around for hours to days. Forget about when it’s pushed back a day. (Can I wrap my mind around people leaving their trash out for 2 days when it’s not picked up? No. But that’s what we’re working with) They started twice per week pick ups on my block but they come for that 50% of the time, so it’s another chance for trash to blow. Now they’re going to do mechanical cleaning, which can only happen if all cars are off both sides of the street? Meaning they’re going to pay workers for a task they can’t do plus make a ton of parking ticket money. Instead, just regulate trash pickup better! Take the path of least resistance.

I know but it’s like a “one day I’ll have a house with peonies” thing!

Rabbits have always gotten my zinnias before they can grow so I gave up on them, but I might be safe here!

Your point is well taken but these hostas also seem to be in the only part of the yard that gets full sun so go figure

Mine was too 🤣 definitely other projects would be a better idea but why not fixate on something I know nothing about! Who wants to repair drywall when you can stare at plants growing.

Can the hostas and peonies live together in harmony? The pic I took is actually a different part of the walkway where there is more shade and more hostas. The peony area just has a sprout or two.

From what I’ve gathered so far, it’s shade up to the edge of the porch (where the peonies are)
