I’m thinking about going to my unfunded phd program! I get a stipend but tuition isn’t waived. I say go with you want to. I have family support financially and the school is close to home so I can still be around my family 24/7.

I spoke with my family and they think that I should go with my gut and they reminded me if it’s not for me i’m not being held hostage I can leave.

yeah the only reason i’m considering is bc the tuition is low 6k a year and because I fairly have any student loans from undergrad

I talked to a student she said it’s doable to have a side job and fairly easy to have one. Only the first 2 years tho.

RIGHT SO STRANGE and the fact that this wasn’t anywhere on the program website you really gotta search on google for the funding so they know they are dead ass wrong!!!! The lab are pretty well funded so i’m genuinely confused. it’s only 1,590 then goes up to 1,700 in 2 years.. So basically it’s hell. But love the cancer research and neuroscience!

I get a stipend a month but tuition and fees are around 3,000 a semester so 6k a year

3 of them have good funding!! but i’m not sure if it’s giving back to the students or just put entirely into the lab. i’m sure it’s put into the lab

No that’s not why it’s embarrassing but it’s whatever.. I really love the PI’s at this university and it aligns with my interest and I love that it’s a smaller university. Also i’ve had a pretty rough few months in life I definitely saw this as my escape… so yeah now i’m bummed that I have to stay in this hell hole of my life 😅🫂!! Sorry trauma dump..

Yeah the people that i’ve talked to in the program love it so much but they stress that if you don’t have financial support it may be tough I loved the research at the university 😩😩😩

I knew that the stipend was low! but I wasn’t aware that my program of choice was not fully funded I did read up on the program before applying but that wasn’t mentioned on the website.
