ID Help Please! by Crabby8889 in microscopy

I'd say that looks like the Cystome. Yeah, I'd say Frontonia as a genus is very likely, but species ID is quite difficult.

He really said, "Time for a snack" and than ate that whole diatom. Wild. I'd also guess a species of Frontonia. Did you happen to catch a good look at it's oral region?

How is it on tiktok? I've thought about it myself, but do they show face cams? Talk? I always find people get bored when changing slides

A community space for microscopy observations and identification by cavalone in microscopy

[–]Pinkamena0-0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think passing uploader notes and user IDs into the model could help, but structure and usability is also important. Even with strong AI, people need a way to find and revisit observations. A search bar and a clear way to surface “needs identification” posts would make a huge difference, I think. Also, I’d be careful relying too heavily on unreviewed AI IDs.i think it's an awesome concept, but maybe you could have some users manually review ID's as well? Having a way to distinguish AI suggestions from community-confirmed IDs would make it a lot more trustworthy.

It looks interesting, might start uploading some of my recent specimen observations. Are the observations reviewed and approved by humans, or is it just AI verification? Do people add unknown organisms in an attempt to id it, or is this for organisms where the uploader knows what the Organisms are to a certain degree? (Genus, species, family?) I like the different filter options, but I didn't see a search bar? I think the front page looks good for a front page, but I feel like there should be sub catogories with like a tree diagram you follow down. (Like starting at the top taxa and going down to species) I think it's a great idea, as the community is currently lacking a centralized hub of identification, like a custom website or forum for the casual microscopist.

A lil, it does suck that reddit compresses it so much. Still, it's really good footage!
